Trevor, I'm curious -- had Marlon heard from U.S. Soccer before this thread was posted? (Or had you or someone else reached out to them on his behalf?)
Well done @Marlonfossey_ - featured on the back page of the Jersey Evening Post today https://t.co/yOIpO1u1Uo pic.twitter.com/37mRvJYBD5— Trevor Fossey (@TrevorFossey) April 7, 2016
Couple of assists for U19 USMNT Marlon Fossey in a 2-3 loss to Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Champion, Everton U18s. https://t.co/cO0htlcVAE— Dallas Cup ⚽️ (@dallascup) April 18, 2016
Marlon has been on the U>S>Soccer radar for at least since the start of last season. His progress season has brought him even more into focus. Marlon received good feedback re his performance in the Dr.Pepper's Dallas Cup - which has given him the opportunity to be in USA U19 squad for the tournament in Slovakia.
Marlon played 1st game in USA shirt earlier today in a victory for USA U19. Comprehensive win http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...orgia-5-1-in-first-match-of-2016-slovakia-cup
Another win today for USA U19, defeating Ukraine 2:1. USA have guaranteed that they will finish top of Group B and qualify for the final on April 29, whatever the outcome of their game vs the host nation on the April 28 - so could 'rest' players for the next game, ready for the final next day. The winners of Group A are likely to be Russia, depending on the results of the final game What a prospect for the final on April 29 - USA vs Russia ! http://www.futbol24.com/international/International/Slovakia-Cup-U18/2016/Group-B/ http://www.futbol24.com/international/International/Slovakia-Cup-U18/2016/Group-A/
That Shredder dude has a Marlon Fossey profile: http://americansoccernow.com/articles/marlon-fossey-makes-a-dream-debut-for-u-s-u-19s As a younger player, Fossey featured at forward and on the wing. It wasn’t until relatively recently that he converted to right back, and it took him awhile to adjust to his defensive responsibilities since he had a strong inclination to get forward. His American ties are clearly mixed, however, as he has no contact and knows very little about his father. His mother was working in the mental health profession in California before returning to her native Jersey. Should England come calling in soccer, it would be a difficult choice but the United States has made a strong first impression. “I do feel American, to be fair,” Fossey said. “It will be a hard decision when I have to choose. I guess it will come down to where I feel most valued. I don’t want to be on a team that doesn’t really use me that much. When I was with the USA, they valued me. I felt wanted there. It was a good first experience with the USA.”
Marlon's wants 'unique' hair' which helps him 'stand out'. I certainly find that Marlon having an Afro style makes it easier to recognise which player he is, in the 'distance' on TV!
Following successful tournament with USA U19, @Marlonfossey_ featured in the Jersey Evening Post today #fulhamfc pic.twitter.com/xy8U1LwKf3— Trevor Fossey (@TrevorFossey) June 2, 2016 The article is not yet online.
They've added a basic version of the article online now, but they don't want to cannibalize their readership, so you'll have to wait a bit (or swing by old Jersey to get your physical copy): http://jerseyeveningpost.com/sport/2016/06/02/football-fossey-has-sights-on-u20-world-cup/
Flying to California to join the US U20 squad next week will be 17 year-old @Marlonfossey_ of #FulhamFC https://t.co/W4uYQDmNHv— Trevor Fossey (@TrevorFossey) June 23, 2016
It's official now: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...layer-u20mnt-roster-for-2016-ntc-invitational
He got his first international U20 action last night coming on as a second-half sub against Costa Rica. The game was a little hectic but he made some pretty good plays. With some time on the ball his head was up and he tried some pretty enterprising passes over distance, even while he was on the move. We haven't had a lot of fullbacks who are looking to make long diagonal balls, so it was interesting to see.
