I don't have any news on this but there is supposedly a U20 camp later this month and it will need a thread to I figured I'd start one for any news that trickles out about it and then to keep it going once the formal roster announcement comes.

Be curious to see if any new college/academy kids are brought in, if any kids are asked to play up and if any 00s who weren't part of the U17 WC are included.

    Speculate away....

Amon is injured but he's not someone I'd call-up. There are others who are more talented. Fontana got some playing time with the Union but there are other players who play the same position and are younger and more talented. Also, Dest is a better RB than Manny Perez.

You mean that all seven forwards from U-20 team plus some others are more talented that Amon? Didn't realize how great we are doing.

Amon isn't that good. Akinola is more talented than him.

May be, but he doesn't need to be great not to be the worst out of 6 forwards. And he is playing professionally on a team that would be above average in MLS.

Doesn't mean that he is an above average player. Last game I watched him play in, he was falling on his ass and whiffing at the ball in the box. His ball skills are very poor.

Nothing really new here, but I didn't realize this camp will be in Spain.

The way Goff worded his tweet seems to suggest that some guys who will be at the U20 camp were also candidates for an MNT camp that tilts young. A gues: Maybe we'll see Tillmann after all, though if I recall there are some legitimate questions about his eligibility for this U20 cycle.

    GK: Scott, Garces, Lopez
DF: Hanson, Dest, Rogers, McKenzie, Araujo, Richards, Gloster, Real
MF: Torres, Goslin, Booth, Fontana, Carleton, de la Fuente, Taitague, Carranza, Bwana
    FW: Weah, Sargent, Perez

Alternates: Muse, Hoffmann, Vines, Crain, Asensio, Cappis, Acosta, Hundley, Soto

A number of MLS teams play during the camp. I don't want players missing first division pro minutes for a YNT camp.

Is this the list or your guess at the list? I haven't heard anything about FCD pro kids and Dallas Cup. If this is the list then hopefully they play Dallas cup. I would expect servania or pomykol to have been invited.

    My guess.

With FC Dallas having a game during this window, I'd hope that Pomykal and Servania aren't called in as they could get MLS minutes.

I was hopeful too, but neither has made a roster and with 2 weeks off I don't see coaches changing their minds. Rumor has it they have both been great so who knows.

Akindele was called up to international duty, which should open up a spot.

It'll be very odd if the USSF chooses to hold a U20 camp during the GenAd Cup and Dallas Cup. That week in Frisco has basically turned into a youth soccer summit with scouts, college coaches flocking to see all of these players. I mean, I'm pretty darn sure that FCD will want players like Cappis and Richards to stay with them to play in the Dallas Cup against Arsenal, etc. Same for Atlanta and TFC.

I suspect that the U20 camp in Spain will be with as many foreign-based youngsters as possible with select domestic guests from MLS first teams. That's not that far from the roster that @ussoccer97531 predicted anyway.

For instance, instead of calling up Justin Garces of Atlanta (who'll have the Dallas Cup), maybe this is a chance to bring in Brandon Austin of Spurs?

Amon was another of the guys I thought Goff might've been referring to. Ah well -- presumably his chance will come.

I would guess about 24 players based on a scan of past early-cycle overseas camps under Ramos.

Interview from a couple of months ago - SFC: What’s your experience been like with the U.S. national team at the youth level?

SR:“I went into [U.S.] camp when I was 16, so I haven’t been since. I want to get back there, so I got to get better here and show that I deserve to be there and make a difference. I will keep working and do what I can to get back there as soon as possible.”
