Not to mention, I have to imagine also that from a financial point of view, Zlatan still makes more sense than most options out there. Unless the club found someone who was available on a free, there's the fee that would be paid to the selling club and there's the salary, something which wouldn't be a worry with Zlatan.
It's not necessarily a slam dunk of a deal as there are many variables that would need to be considered. But if Zlatan is not going to retire and wants to keep playing, I'd hope it's something the club would consider carefully at least.

Nah...this isn't financial. he will need 8 months to a year and will be 36...he's done as a consistent performer in a top league. We should offer him 60 thou a week...and help with his recuperation, and he can help us with the young guys in return. He can play some smaller matches at the end of next season if he's fit...but that's about it. He will never be the main striker in this team again. If he refuses the offer ..he is welcome to move to wherever he pleases...but at least we offered.

The whole premise of that idea is that he won't be the first option anymore. I clearly mentioned a few posts back that the need for a new #1 is imperative and that will not change no matter what.
The financial part I was just referring to was in regards to the acquisition of another backup option as I clearly mentioned previously as well, I do not want to go into next season, with the idea that just 2 nominal strikers would be enough. We need a third and Zlatan could provide that for United once he returns in early 2018. I'm sure there are viable options out there, even though I can't think of any tbh. Zlatan, if he was able to accept it, would have the same role as Sheringham back then or Larsson when he joined us for half a season. That is the role I envisage for him.

In no way should he be kept on in the hope that he will actually help us in the latter end of next season. It's around 75% that he is done at the top level.....it would only be a bonus if he was kept on (on a lesser salary, with a guidance role) and helped us towards the end of 2018. Basically he should not be factored in...when looking at the squad we need next season.

By the way, I'm just saying it's a courtesy to offer him a lesser contract. He probably has too big a head to accept such a generous offer. So we probably wont have this discussion for much longer.

And if he won't accept it, then that's that. But I hope it's an option both he and the club will consider as it benefits both sides from my point of view.
Regardless, whether it's Zlatan (preferably) or someone else, I want 3 strikers in the team at some point next season.

******** outta here with that shit. This is not a stable for retired thoroughbreds. It would have showed respect if he didn't play hardball with the club twice. Once he got a huge contract and an option for a second year and the second time he messed around and got burned. It isn't like he was here for years. He just got here. Goodbye.

Yeaahh...but we are better than him. We shouldn't be vindictive or petty. We are club of values, at least that's what I'd like to see.

I will tell you all something that may worry everybody........Jose likes Zlatan on a personal level....It wouldn't surprise me if he goes to the top brass..and convinces them to keep him on....on his current contract.....and then you'll all be able to see that I was right about Jose and his nature for and against certain players.

Football is a cruel business, but we needed to cut the bait on Ibra even before his injury. Even a casual inspection of my recent posts will confirm that I have been saying this for a while.

Let's work through logic and see if you reprobates here can follow. There are about 4 or 5 regulars here -- and I count Ashur among them -- who get it and another 4 or 5 who are somewhat lost and then 2 here who clearly perform noncognitive, repetitive tasks at "work" who come on here for their only substantive social interaction. Those two know who they are.

Ibra carried us on his back for about 2/3 of the season. 28 goals and 10 assists for any striker is a fantastic return but for a free transfer is pretty fukking insane. There were more than a few games where Ibra put in the only performance worthy of praise. We can certainly attest that Rooney and Martial have been AWOL for most of the season.

But even before the injury, we had to let Ibra go to MLS this summer. United has to look forward and Ibra is a player of the past. His legend will not be soon be forgotten and each of us should be grateful for the massive club PTOY-esque contribution he made in 16/17 in getting right to the goal line of CL qualification. But there's just no way we should bring him back in 17/18.

Whatever the right answer for the first choice front line may be for 17/18, it can't include Ibra. (Got that, "Chaz"?)

If Jose insists on bringing Ibra back, his resume beats mine every time so I'll defer to him but it has to be with the understanding that Ibra, once he's declared fit, will not be run into the ground as he was this season and that he will be treated as every other player is. Van Gaal gave Rooneh special status and Jose gave Ibra special status. There can be no fukking special status next season. You perform, then you play. You do not, someone eats your lunch.

    Got that, Jose?

There's no way gatekeeper has time to run a sock account in between his own walls of insubstantia. Unless he's typing with his feet, maybe.

Zlatan plans on visiting with knee specialist surgeon Freddie Fu from Pittsburgh, for further consultation on his knee. He is world known to operate on ACL injuries.

Are we really discussing keeping Ibra? Many of us were against keeping Ibra before his injury, but now we should consider it? What is there to gain?

Say he stays...he picks up ridiculous wages for months while he rehabs his knee, comes back in January at the earliest, needs a couple months to get back up to games speed (which is being generous, it took Falcao a couple years), and maybe he makes a positive contribution for the last month of the season?

Wake up Peter Pan. Count Chocula. His time here is done.

Whether it's with United or elsewhere, it seems pretty clear that if he's coming all the way to the US to see a specialist like Dr Fu, he probably has no intentions as of yet to hang up his boots and is going to try and make a comeback from this.
Very curious as to what he'll have to say in regards to his future.

That's a pretty big leap. If you had as much money as Ibra, wouldn't you want to see the best surgeon available whether you were gonna play again or not?

Smh, anyway... Jose this morning pre match when asked if he believed if Zlatan will play again, unsurprisingly responded that is not what he cares about that at the moment and is only concerned about his well being at this time, with hopes he makes a full recovery from that perspective.
