'98 #usynt Chivas USA starlet is signing up with Italian giants Fiorentina. Perez arrived in Florence today.
He's a big part of the U15 national teams and should move up to the U17s soon. The 2015 U17 cycle has essentially just started.
This is actually kind of a big deal. Perez is pretty much the only USYNT player in an Italian academy right now. Lots in England and Germany. Not many in Spain or Italy.
Fiorentina may become our De facto Serie A club with Rossi there, Jozy still potentially moving there this summer and now Perez in their academy system.
Unless Bradenton is indeed going away, he may be a Hyndman type player, a U17 that can't play with the U17s. But the point still stands that it is okay to follow his career
Here's an interview with Perez when he was training in Florence back in 2010. (at the end of the video you also hear from our friend Thomas Ziemer, who was there as well)
Hmmm, I can't speak for anybody else, but right now the only club in Italy I give two poops about is Roma. That could change obviously with a Jozy-Joshua combo in five years but for now..
The club has not updated its youth rosters for 2013/14 but when it does, he will presumably be on one of these squads: http://it.violachannel.tv/settore-giovanile.html Are we 100% sure he went there last season?
Does anybody know how Perez will be able to move to Fiorentina and still comply with FIFA's general prohibition of transfers for players under 18? Will his family be moving as well... just like the kid who joined Real Madrid?
Called by Richie Williams to face the Real Madrid Academy with the U-17s, still listed at Fiorentina: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...under-17-squad-called-face-real-madrid-academ
I spoke with Fiorentina. Perez has been signed, but he's still in the US. They're working to bring him at the end of the season together with his family. At first he will play for the Primavera team.
I thought he was pretty good at the Nike Friendlies this year. Wasn't blow away but since I have seen him play less than 5 times I can't really render a fair opinion. None the less I am sure this is an exciting time for him and his family.
