This thread has entered some weird territory where we are now discussing how bulky or not bulky the guy is. I hope his return tomorrow gives us something else to talk about.
The only positive thing about his performance last night was that he somehow managed to make Gareth Bale look good.
I saw it from the shots in the tunnel. He looked anxious to score. My guess he was thinking about Messi's 4 goals and how far he's behind due to the suspension. His obsession with Messi has hurt us this year. Remember his first yellow was due to copying his celebration.
It still boggles my mind how some people thought this guy could make up the lack of goals from Benzema, Bale, and an unreplaced Morata (who scored almost double the amount of Liga goals as Benzema and Bale). Forget that he already needs about 50.000 shots to score a goal. Forget that he's had form issues for years, in particularly last year during the first many months from season start to January or so, during which he was one of our worst players. Forget that he's almost 33 years old. Forget the chances of him getting injured or suspended. Let's just mindlessly spend 40 million euros on some 16 year old nobody from Brazil, rather than spend that money on a worthwhile forward, because hey, we've got Ronaldo. Well done Zidane and Florentino, you goddamn maestros.
Maybe because he's the best goal scorer of all time and averages a goal per game?? He also happens to be one of the best players in the world
Your obsession with Messi is hurting you. He didn't copy Messi, Marcelo did that celebration first. Marcelo was also the one who told Ronaldo to lift up the shirt. The irony.
Off game for sure, but I think he's buried enough goals for us in his Madrid career that he's allowed to have a bad game here and there. Pathetic is that we're heading into the year 2018 and Ronaldo is our only goal threat.
Pathetic that we scored 3 goals at Anoeta without him, then he comes back, takes 20 shots of the 27 of the entire team himself and can't score a single one. He missed more shots than both Bale and Benzema did during his ban, in a single match. Although, the real issue here is, how good is his Spanish, and could him improving his grammar improve on his performance?
I called it this summer Bale will have a "good" season meaning he will stay healthy and have an above average output, his fanboys will try to make the claim he's top three but truth of the matter is he he'll be anonymous and unable to assert himself most of the time especoally at crucial moments in competitive games against opponents with organized defenses. He will make up for it with bursts of stat padding but he's already been exposed. Ditto Ronaldo who is the bigger worry because we depend on him to be a goal scoring threat from minute 0 to 90. I am basing this on the the 2, soon to be 3, newborns at home which will surely take alot out of him as he is a dedicated father. I am personally okay with this because I believe he has earned it, the right to have an "off year". I also expect Ramos, Marcelo, etc to be distracted by the world cup come the spring along with players pulling a Barca and "preserving" themselves for the summer showcase.
And if things don't go this way, you'll comfortably disappear just the way you did last summer when the team won the double. good job.
Subtract half of them shots and you will get the real amount and key word you said there is "shots"not sitters , most of them were pot shots from outside the box or him slipping on hes arse. He had two brilliant chances to score and he sent them into space. Thank fully most reasonable people dont judge a player on one bad game. Now if last night becomes a regular occurrence say lilke , bale and benzema have been doing for a year or more for instance them we might have something to talk about but untill that happens no ones buying ur deflected blame bollox .
That's about as flawed logic as the language crap with Bale. When he was banging in goals left and right before this game, where were the newborns?
He is also under performing actually. But he has shown that he is reliable. Scores in the more important part of the season.
Last year he was abysmal for quite a stretch, people went hammer and tongs at him, he came back stronger than ever and was absolutely critical during the end stretch of the season. He was on fire before the ban, some perspective is needed here. He is the least of our worries right now. We need Benz to get back to fitness and form, he is critical for us this season.
Bale and Benzema play 30 shit games per season but hey, they're still getting in form, Ronaldo plays bad a game and he is underperforming
Bunch of cry babies. One bad game and all hell breaks loose. So damn grateful to the man who scored 55 goals in last 4 UCL seasons.
Saying he was sh*t against Betis doesn't mean he'll be sh*t against Alaves and Dortmund, it meant he was sh*t against Betis. Being a historic figure of legendary status didn't stop Casillas getting booed when he made mistakes. If we can claim that Bale and Benzema cost us points against Valencia and Levante, then we sure can say that Ronaldo cost us points against Betis.
