Scored in pre-season U-18 match today. http://www.safc.com/news/20120724/youths-unbeaten-in-three_2256213_2859482 And had a first-half hat trick over the weekend. http://www.safc.com/news/20120722/youths-continue-impressive-start_2256213_2857324
Not listed with U-18s http://www.safc.com/players-and-staff/under-18s/andrew-cartwright (or U21s), and all those links are coming up as 404 errors. Any news or is this all an elaborate hoax by DMN?
Here he is in a recent match report: Sunderland: Maddison, Ledger, Burn, Suker, Reece Noble, Holland (McCarthy, 65), Agnew (Martin, 60), Cartwright, Robson (Greenwood, 75), Smith (Stimson, 75), Gooch. http://www.safc.com/news/reserves-and-academy/2012/august/u18s-notch-friendly-win But wait! Maybe that's just want I want you to think...
almost looks like the real site, but there aren't nearly enough "U's" for any English writeup and there is no way 'Neville Pilkington' (byline) isn't completely made up - it sounds way too perfectly English.
Lynden Gooch played for Ireland's U18s last night in a 1-0 loss to Switzerland http://www.fai.ie/international/you...uffer-single-goal-loss-in-swiss-friendly.html
Some praise for Gooch for his U-18 performances: http://www.safc.com/news/reserves-and-academy/2013/may/another-learning-experience
Well just to be clear its not a quote from Lynden. And playing for the Ireland U18's is not exactly the path to becoming Wayne Rooney.
Gooch has apparently accepted a (non-FIFA-binding) USA callup for the Milk Cup, according to TDS. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/us-u18-mnt-roster-released-for-milk-cup_aid29054 (Haven't seen an official roster yet but may have missed it on the US Soccer site.)

Eh, seems like so many decisions always go in the direction of NY/NJ programs. No surprise Bradley, Arena, Cabrera, Williams, Ramos from that background.
Article at http://www.ussoccer.com/news/u-18-mnt/2013/07/u18-mnt-forward-gooch-making-his-name-known.aspx
http://www.soccerbyives.net/2013/11...l-based-squad-for-u-s-u-20-camp-in-italy.html Gooch has been selected by Ramos for the upcoming U-20 trip to Italy from Nov. 10-20 to face the U-2o sides of Hellas Verona, Iran, and TBA opponent.
Goal: And the California-born striker told safc.com he was pleased to contribute with his seventh goal of the campaign as Maksymilian Stryjek saved two Ipswich spot-kicks in the shootout. “It was a tough game for everyone,” Gooch said. “I just got the ball, went past a couple of people, and hit it - we needed a goal and luckily it went in. http://www.safc.com/news/reserves-and-academy/2013/december/gooch-delighted-with-cup-win
Scored 2 today: U.S. U20 forward Lynden Gooch scored twice in Sunderland U18's 3-1 win over Everton: http://t.co/jHvAts3BSU— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) December 17, 2013
Sunderland fan here, thought you might like to see some of his goals from this season. vs. Bolton: http://i.minus.com/ib0xYcuu5FCQTy.gif vs. Everton: http://i.minus.com/iL846zsjSw2L9.gif vs. Fulham: http://i.minus.com/iyKAz3nv1xNQE.gif vs. Ipswich: http://i.minus.com/im9TtVUKXiaPb.gif vs. Leicester: http://i.minus.com/imm65yB0QQsY1.gif vs. Man Utd: http://i.minus.com/iqztLx9mWquXH.gif Fair to say he has a bit of quality!
Yes he is but maybe a bit too soon for the first team, he still hasn't made the step up to the under 21s yet.
Well, I think it's safe to say Gooch is confident -- very confident in fact -- in his ability to take you off the dribble and have a go at goal. If the GIFs are anything to judge Gooch on, it looks like his success rate is pretty high. I've never seen the kid play but rumor has it that he's a pretty talented prospect. I can see why
It's not just his goalscoring, he's also very creative too. In 18 games for the u18s this season he has scored 9, with 9 assists and also won 3 penalties (which he doesn't take).
Well that's crap! Let the boy take the spot kicks if he's earned it -- dammit! Seriously, those are some lofty, lofty numbers. Quite impressive. Can I assume, by those numbers, that everything flows thru him offensively??? I would think if the production and growth continues there's nothing holding him back from bumping up to the U-21's.
Everything does go through him but he could and probably should be scoring even more, still only 18 though. We have a very strong u21 team but in the second half of the season a few may either go out on loan or into first team reckoning, which should see him make the under 21 team.
Appreciate it. That's what I suspected and that's good to hear. It sounds like Gooch will have to continue to earn his stripes in the U-18's until player movement in the U-21's allows him to move up. Not a bad thing at all considering his age. All Gooch can do is continue to impress. That should be his objective.
