Hey, at Gooch's age N'Golo Kante was playing in the third division too!

But, of course, think about how many tens of thousands of 22/23 year olds have played at this level historically and not made it to a higher level.

    Short interview:

Lynden Gooch is loving every second of life at Sunderland under Jack Ross’ management.

He's going to turn into a legend at Sunderland if he keeps this up.

He's going to do well. He'd better, because for large parts of the match he was the primary attacking threat - it was get it wide to Gooch and see if he can make something happen. He won 3 or 4 free kicks in dangerous areas, crossing was inconsistent. He was almost the only threat in the first half, Sunderland brought Jerome Sinclair on as a target at halftime and that made the attack much more balanced, and much more dangerous.

Goal was a header off a ball from Oviedo. Strange thing was Gooch had a great chance just seconds before - and he pretty much swung and missed.

The most surprising thing about this is that there is foreign language coverage of League One o_O

Holmes isn’t at Coventry, right? Still with Scunthorpe?

Correct. Odd mistake to make, but we know he made the team of the week.

That was awesome. One of his best bits of play I’ve ever seen.

Doubt they'll care too much. Promotion is the be-all-and-end-all for Sunderland this season, with the FA Cup to spice things up, as can be seen from the weakened side they put out. The fans certainly won't; there were no more than 10,000 of them in a +40,000-seater stadium. Really weird atmosphere for a North-East club
