so why hasn't he played a match with the first team since his injury? Does Moyes not trust him or just want to only play those with experience in a relegation fight?
43: Lynden Gooch hits the post with virtually an empty net to shoot into. Sunderland's best chance of the half. #SAFCU23s— Roker Report (@RokerReport) March 6, 2017
They got creamed 3-1. Were down 3-0 but United's Poole got a red & S'land scored in the last minute. On the plus side, Gooch played 90.
Why play youngsters when you can play everton castoffs that are year's past it... just like their manager??

We should be hoping they get relegated ASAP right? (Not that they need any help with that.) If he is any good at all he would almost certainly be a mainstay in their quest to bounce back up and if they can lock up that relegation spot with time to spare, he may play out the string!
Swansea and Palace are so bad, the chances of any of the bottom three locking a relegation spot before Day 37 are remote.

The latter for certain. Jury is still out on Gooch. Partly due to his age. Mostly due to the fact that the only manager he's had is Moyes. Assuming Sunderland appoint someone good in the summer (a questionable assumption, I know ), If he continues to be a fringe player then we'll know he's not that good and we'll be looking for reports of transfers to Hartlepool or Doncaster.
Love this kids heart and determination, but he is placed properly in the reserves, no way 1st team material at this time. Best thing for him is sunderland relegation and gets his starting role in the Championship next year. This has nothing to do with Moyes. imo.

I don't really understand why he wouldn't play over the likes of Borini, Kaziri, Pienaar. They have combined for 3 goals and 0 assists this season (as per Matt Doyle's tweet). Surely you have to switch it up at some point? Hopefully, now that they are relegated he will get some apps to end the year.

What was the point of this game? Why didn't they just play their young academy players? What benefit does anyone get from Jermain Defoe playing in this game?
1) Jermaine gets a goal 2) Jermaine's price increases a tad (though the club has to sell him and everyone else knows it) 3) The club gets 1 more win in the season so supporters might be thrilled. I totally agree. They should have used academy players to get their feet wet.
