Here's an interview with Luis from the US MNT blog: http://mnt-ussoccer.blogspot.com/2009/05/exit-interview-with-luis-robles.html I just realized autobus posted this same link above. Ooopsies.
Great interview, I thought. I figure we need six keepers for this summer with the Confederations Cup and Gold Cup. The way I see it: CC: 1) Timmy, 2) Guzan, 3) Pickens GC 1) Hahnemann, 2) Perkins, 3) Robles I doubt Robles or Pickens would get any playing time, but these camps are always a good experience.
I don't think Hahnemann will be used unless needed. I would expect the Goal Cup will be used to either play Guzan or Robles.
I have the same train of thought. I believe the Gold Cup will be used to find out true #3GK...So I expect to see Perkins, Robles and one other GK (Hannehman makes sense here but he would want to start...so look for another overseas GK to be taken..or we could just see Seitz/Cervi here).
Right on. It prides me to see him wearing the US colors. Scary to think but that is not even as high a leap as I have seen Luis make. We both know he can jump over the moon. His vertical is ridiculous. He'd make some basketball players jealous. Edit: Just looked at the 2nd pic again. Fitting how there's a b-ball court in the background!
Some footage of Robles (I think) training at the very beginning of this clip from USSoccer: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ztMUBoKpo0"]YouTube - May 29, 2009: MNT Practice Look-Iin[/ame]
While its cool that he is wearing our colors..it will be better when we cap him. He is eligible to play for PR and South Korea so I am a bit nervous until he is capped.
PR would LOVE to get their hands on him and I believe they've tried to call him up twice. Do you think South Korea is even aware of him? Anyway, I think the only way he suits up for another country is if he is definitively ignored by the USNT. He has said that he wants to play for the US. PR isn't a terrible option since they are a rising force in the Caribbean. I wouldn't be surprised to see them making the Semifinal Round one of these cycles. But it's not like playing for the US -- especially for a guy who was born in Arizona and played in the US system. I wouldn't worry about Robles too much, but if you insist on doing so I'd imagine your worries will be gone after this summer.
Luis has waited for his opportunity with the US, as he's had opportunities to represent Puerto Rico in this cycle. People are going to worry, though.
