Some teams emphasize it and some don't. Everton takes the PL2 very seriously and use it to develop youth for the first team. Other teams just use it to get minutes for reserves. Not sure how Fulham views it. Quite a bit of the England U20 squad that won the U20WC played in the PL2 last year. Like Single A baseball, imo, if you are in the PL2 at 18-20 that is a good spot. Over 20, maybe a loan is better. Playing well in the PL2 can help with a move most likely.

I am hearing that there is a lot of truth to this. I'm not as pessimistic. Brad Friedel is a former U.S. YNT coach that I'm sure wants to play YNT players. It's not like he's going to the Galaxy, Houston, NYCFC, or Atlanta.
This is the point you tell me you are hearing rumors about Carleton....anything, please god anything is better than the situation he is in right now
Galaxy have played plenty of youth over the years. Jose Villareal was just given plenty of opportunity to show what garbage he is. Same with Jack McBean.
McBean is not MLS quality, but I've always thought Villarreal's career has had a strange progression. He has 5g, 9a in 2,354 career minutes. That's good production, but he never seems to nail down a spot. I'm not sure if there's some issue with him behind the scenes or if he's just wound up with coaches too hung up on his athletic limitations to coax the most out of him.
I watched Villarreal closely. He benefited from playing with prime Donovan/Keane Galaxy. His athletic limitations were substantial.
So, Fulham are going up, which can't exactly bode well for DLT. Have to wonder if a loan isn't on the cards for next season.
unfortunately...mls teams use foreign slots for attackers....i agree that a player like villareal shouldve been given more run in MLS based on his production. hopefully theres still a chance he gets it.....
Added for the Euro friendlies. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...calls-25-players-to-europe-for-ireland-france
He was pretty good with the U17s and U20s. He's played 5 times with Fulham's first team. Other than that, he's just a really gifted player.
I'm gonna agree with @wixson7 over in the Emo thread on this one. There's no way these call ups are solely about who earned them if LDLT is getting a call up over Emo. Honestly, it makes me a little mad that that happened. If anything, LDLT's call up is strictly catering to those saying the USMNT isn't calling up enough youth players, and that's about it.
