That's what I don't understand. If Baltimore is DC United's teritory, why wouldn't the game be blacked out on ESPN+?
Blackout rules are setup to protect the local broadcaster not the team. I assume that Newschannel 8 is so unavailable in the Baltimore area that ESPN+ not being blacked out there doesn't materially affect them
Correctamundo!. Fortunately unlike the NFL, MLS games can be televised locally if they aren't sold out. Yes I know the Skins aren't technically sold out but that's another story
Just took a peek at the Cox countour listings for tomorrow June 9. They will carry the DCU-Seattle pregame and then only 30 minutes of the match. May very well be a misprint, or they know it will be all over by the 30th minute. edit appears to be a typo, the regular program wasn't removed and the postgame show is listed
Upon even deeper investigation they were going to only play the portions of the match where United strung 2 passes together, then opted for 2 consecutive passes forward, and finally realizing there would be no more than 10 touches that qualified they opted to show the whole thing hoping to make a royalty airing the dasher board ads for coffee and salmon.
The DirecTV guide listed the game the same way, from 10-10:30, then news programs until the post-game show at 12 - I guess it's better than last week when it listed the game on the wrong day until Friday night
Too bad it wasn't true they would have ended up with a point if the match was only 30 minutes. Maybe that's what the team needs, shorter fields, smaller balls and less time
So folks at Sinclair/Ch8 are as bad at updating their national program info (read by cable guides) as they are at producing soccer games - or updating their news scroll - midnite-ish last night the scroll was talking about the Stanley Cup being on its way back to DC and showing road closures for the "upcoming Pride parade" (which was Saturday afternoon)
