I received the same email. This is how I responded. “This game aired on NBC. Anyone who owns a television was able to see this match for free. Is this “gift” supposed to make me feel better about paying $50 for a service that was free last season?”

There is shock at the BBC over the decision, with one insider describing it as “monumentally restrictive” as it will deny a likely listener base of more than one million people the chance to listen to the Group E fixture as it unfolds via a traditional radio service. There is also the suspicion at the station that this is a taste of things to come as major clubs, and Liverpool in particular, look to take live broadcasting of their games, on TV as well as radio, in house.
In house? I’m all for it! I’d gladly pay LFC $50 to watch all their games - without having to hunt through channels to find the game, switch from NBC Sport to NBC just as the whistle goes, or pay additional $$s for some ‘Gold’ channel
Yeah got the same message... waste of an email if you ask me. I will say that I was able to stream both games this last week behind a vpn while I was in Switzerland... so there is one advantage to getting these streaming packages...
