Nice Norman Wisdom tribute from Firmino in his goal celebration. Didn't know he was big in Brazil. For all the terrible passes - and there have been many - we've been the better team and deserve the lead. With Kevin Friend on the pitch, though, anything can happen.

If Hendo could pick a pass this would be ugly

3 points, much better in the second half. Mignolet had very little to do yet still produced a couple of "WTF?" moments with the ball at his feet.

He played a couple of exquisite cross-field aerial balls earlier in the game. But the slide-rule passes along the ground haven't gone so well.

Well in redmen. A clean sheet and three points, what's not to like?

good response, both to the result last week, and to a dire first half. up to 6th right now (Newcy winning on Monday could push us down to 7th) which is good considering form and injuries so far.

well done to all. now let's tonk Maribor again on Weds and have a break with no injuries.

    my cynical take:
all deliberate by Klopp - give Lovren a vote of confidence (and an "up yours" to the trolls) by naming him to start, but no intent to play him. win-win.

Great result. Could've been the same old, same old after Salah's miss at the spot but we kept pressing and finished our chances. Great win, let's take it to Maribor again.

Why did Salah take the PK instead of Millie?

    FT 3-0 to Liverpool.

It was a tale of two halves. It was the best of times and it was the worst of times.

MOTM for me was Milner. Intelligent runs, all over the place, tackles, great corners. Should have taken the pen

Sturridge took his gift well but he still goes walk about too often.

Hard Bobby - what can you say. You know what you got from him. Effort and intelligence. Glad to see him adding headers to his locker

Back four had little to do and they did it ok.

Mignolet hadn’t a save to make.

Gini is the silent glue until occasionally he steps up and scores a goal like that

    Henderson. His standard performance.

Salah gave us most of our creativity and I am sorry he didn’t bury the pen.

Solanke, Can, and Ox played acceptably in their sub roles.

    Maribor midweek.

There was a definite tactical change for Liverpool today. Gomez was told not to go forward and to stay back and support the center backs. It was a 3 at the back system while we normally play with 2 at the back. There was no right wing back. The attacking players provided the width on the right side. Either Salah or Milner would stay very wide. Moreno provided the width on the left.

I thought Gomez was excellent in that role, maybe man of the match. He is definitely part of the solution to our defensive problems. We defended very comfortably today. Let’s hope the defending continues to improve.

Sorry can't agree with Milner as MOTM. he was the worst of a poor bunch in the first 45. did Ok but no me than that in 2nd.

I'd give it to Mo - the only sharp / dangerous player we had all game. he deserved the pen, shame the goalie was allowed to run about 10 yards off the line.

One good half is better than none. Good to see Sturridge score--might it rekindle something in him?

Maribor, then at West Ham, then then the break, after which (in theory) Mané and Lallana are back. Just get through the week, guys.

I think we as fans contribute to the problem by characterizing the first half as a terrible performance. Only Liverpool can have 75% of the ball and have an overwhelming negative feeling around the ground.

We had some sloppy play in the first half and didn’t create many chances, but we were still completely comfortable in the game. The Huddersfield fans out sang our fans all game long despite their team not being able to string two passes together.

Sloppy is right in this 2 part match.
The first 45 was what we all were afraid of. Hardly, well none really, any penetration at all.
So who honestly thought that Mo would score that PK??? Bad idea and we needed a goal right then.

Second half saw them lose their composure and we picked up our game. Nice goals, I felt we could have had more.

Gini pissed me off with that header. Who TF teaches players to duck their heads like that. No control or direction at all. Seems that's the way it's done now....stupid!

Nice 3 points and a clean sheet.

And continue to improve it must. We'll meet more severe challenges than this but it was good not to gift the opposition goals.

Fair point that's very true, I just recall the sliderule passes over and over. They always seemed to go sideways or backwards though yes he did have 1 or 2 nice ones. Just needs a bit more vision.

Agree and that's something in a ground like SJP or some of the livelier home patches.
