We need a Vidic-type centerback - adequate on the ball, but positionally aware and simply hates seeing the ball hit his own net.

why is anyone holding up a Manure player as an example, as opposed to an LFC player?

Hyypia was a bargain and an excellent player.....either we get lucky again or pay the going rate

Matip is already a Hyypia - reader of the game, good on the ball.

We need somebody that complements that player - a Carragher, a Vidic, a Barzagli - somebody that simply wants to fu*king defend and HATES being scored on.

If you want a top-tier centreback, I think it's Beckenbauer or Thor. Bobby Moore played in a different era, too, so maybe they would have difficulty coping with today's game, but Pele is quoted as saying Moore was the toughest defender he played against.

A bit more modern, Maldini after he moved from fullback.

If I can be forgiven a bit of heresy, Ricardo Carvalho or Tony Adams would make an EPL list.

But another Hyypia would be a bit of heaven...

Bobby Moore was a player of class. He didn't need the dirt. I saw him play a few times in the mid 60s.

Rowdy was from that era, another of OUR greats.

But I do miss big Sammi. Even when people said he was too slow his reading of the ball saved us time and again.

a sign our season has left people less than enthusiastic: a 3-1 win leaves us with only 5 pages of discussion

I'm of the opinion that guys like Bobby Moore likely mightn't have made it in today's game. Defender's for the most part, just don't look like that anymore. They seem bred like racing stock nowadays.

For the record, I like both Matip and Lovgren and don;t really see a problem if they are fit.

That would be fixed by buying Marco Reus and that kid from Monaco.

Klopp Out posts are a Kop-Out (pun distorted and intended)

we won't be any better without this man. He's the best there is...... And though his teams sometimes fail, it's not at least, from completely silly player selection decisions (sturridge sometimes perhaps excepted) like the last two long term (5 + yrs) managers were prone to.
