Toxteth, eh? I seem to remember another feller from there that did ok for the club not too long ago...
I've watched the U18's a few times this season , Jones looks a really good prospect as does Edvard Tagseth . It's great to see such a talented youth in the pipeline but just as frustrating knowing it'll probably be years before they can impact the first eleven. I'm not getting any younger........unfortunately
Rhian Brewster - a big talent in the academy - scored a hat trick in the U17 World Cup against the US today in a quarterfinal romp. He's one to watch for.
At least the kids are doing well .......... Match report: U23s move five points clear by beating Man United http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/aca...-move-five-points-clear-by-beating-man-united
It was a very good match. Liked the pass and move football, even if it didn't always come off, that the kids play.
Rhian Brewster with a hat trick. England win 3-1 over Brazil at the U-17 World Cup Brewster now has back to back hat tricks and 7 goals for the tournament. He is the leading contender for Golden Boot heading into the final. This is after Solanke won the Golden Boot at the u-20s

Ben Woodburn signs new LFC deal at Melwood http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/fir...os-ben-woodburn-signs-new-lfc-deal-at-melwood
the thing is, with brewster's age you simply never know if they'll ever make the grade. it's so incredibly frustrating / tantalizing. we may never see him play a first-team game. pongolle got the golden boot at the U17 WC and he never made it with us. of the past 10 winners I can only recognize 2 names - Pongo and Fabregas, and earlier than that the only name that means anything to me is Adriano. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/n...glands-brewster-with-confidence-36261614.html
In any sport, it's "easy" to be top class at youth level. Simple maths says it's 10x as hard at senior level as you are competing against the best from 15 years of birth instead of 1 or 2. So although Brewster may be one of the two best English U17 strikers, at Senior level he may only be one of the 20 best. Of which perhaps only 3 make the England WC squad.
Brewster is not a big unit and most of his goals are from positioning and finding space. Is that a coaching thing, that these seemingly good players fail to make the grade? I can see why big, lumbering players may dominate age groups games but, with no additional skills developed, flounder at the top level.
That’s not my point. Yes, physically advanced players have an advantage. My point is the pool is 10x as big, whatever their size.
Tactical awareness and reading of the game is a big issue at youth level. Especially when defending so as he plays with older players he will find it harder to get those chances
I know that but he's showing this already. The jump to the senior level is much harder but so is coaching those [key] characteristics of a striker. Coaches and managers have to earn their corn, I say.
Brewster has scored again, as England come back from two goals down to lead 3-2. His movement in and around the six-yard box is quite something. Ten minutes to go. Mike Marsh is part of the England coaching team.
FT 5-2 England fights back from 2-0 down to win the U-17 World Cup. Rhian Brewster got the critical first goal to start the fight. And wins the Golden Boot.
