Agreed. He was excellent. Didn't realise he was such a cultured passer of the ball. He was impressive as well - seems to be better at dealing with crosses than either Mig or Karius. It’s been a good weekend.
What does it say, though, about Sakho's future at the club that he was not among the players rested for the cup match against Spurs.
That it's looking less and less likely to be with Liverpool. Could be moved on as soon as the January window methinks.
Interesting issue with Sakho - he seemed like a solid choice last year...although there was always "something" that held him up - "gangly, unorthodox...whatever". However, it seems that Lovren and Matip are working well together - so Sakho is a backup if he stays...(who's the backup if he leaves?)...we've got Joe Gomez...but he is young...
Klavan and Lucas — who I expect will play against Spurs in the cup. Gomez will be interesting, as he can play anywhere across the backline.
Ah - yes - forgot about Klavan. Lucas, to me (at this stage in his career) is a great utility player who has shown he can play in the center-back positions, as well as a holding, defensive mid... So - I'd say we are ok if Sakho leaves, even in January...
All signs point to Lucas leaving after this season - he gave an interview about 3 weeks ago essentially saying the same. We would need Gomez to be ready to step up as the 4th CB with Klavan if Sakho is shipped out
I like Sakho and think he's certainly good enough .However , I don't see a way back for him under Klopp, whatever he's done to offend doesn't seem to be going away . I watched the presser yesterday and Klopp simply wasn't interested in discussing Sakho .Not even a bit of the ususal type of banter ie working hard in the reserves, showing good attitude etc...........nothing at all from for the press from Jurgen. But I think the message is clear that Sakho has no future here, he'll play with the u23's until either he agrees to go on loan as Klopp suggested or else he's sold. We have Matip,Lovren,Klavan,Lucas right now and I think Gomez will get the opportunity when he's fully fit.
Liverpool paid 18M for Sakho and he has only played 55 matches over the past 3 seasons, not counting the current one. nobody is going to pony up "a lot of money" for the kind of player who can't even break into the first team ahead of Lucas Leiva, at least IMO.
In a world where Stones goes for 48 a solid center half that is left footed will bring good money, even though it is known that he is risky
So the U-23s fall 1-0 away at Citeh. Caombhin Kellerher our 17 year old keeper was MOTM. Citeh might easily have had four. Our lads looked tired. Gave up an early goal and were under great pressure 1st half We played better in the second and simply couldn't get the goal our work deserved. Jordan Williams played the 2nd half and made a real contribution on his way back from injury
City was the better side overall and could have been out of sight by halftime. Liverpool did improve quite significantly in the second half but couldn't quite score an equaliser.
U-23s draw 1-1 with Porto B in Cup competition. Classic goal by Brooks Lennon, a la Coutinho, on a cut onto your right foot and bend in upper 90 far post Grujic got a good run and played well. Overall it was a good lesson for a mostly young attacking side with a bunch of players still eligible at U -18! Porto full of cynical fouls, diving, and wind up. Liked Virtue, Williams, Juanma, and Wilson. Woodburn still finding his feet at this level. You can see why Klopp said don't get carried away about the lad just yet.
U23s strike twice in convincing Reading win http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/academy/243900-u23s-strike-twice-in-convincing-reading-win Sakho one of the scorers.
I suppose it goes here, Michael Beale likely going to Brazil to coach and it may open the door for Stevie G to come in and coach one of the younger groups. I doubt very much Stevie would coach the U23s, but could assist lower down as others get promoted up http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...michael-beale-quits-sao-paulo-steven-gerrard/
Yeah I hope that is the case and based on recent interviews, Stevie doesn't appear to want to be given jobs on reputation. Probably see Critchley promoted and Stevie maybe starting out as an assistant with 18s or something.
