Too early to tell if we’re in a slump but as of late Pachuca seems to have made nothing but bad decisions. With Fassi paying a lot more attention to Talleres, Marco Garcés has more or less taken over his duties and has done a horrible job. We wasted over half a year with a terrible coach who Garcés asked for, and then replaced him with another who hasn’t shown anything so far. Signings have been stupid. Youth players are getting less time than ever despite most of our foreigners being mediocre. Martinez seems content with the club just functioning right now.
They’ve been the most dominant team in all of Mexico. The moniker grande really only matters to those who root for the established 4. Objectively they’ve been the best. I still think they’ve underperformed.
Those who accuse Tigres of being small-time remind me of Manchester United fans who similarly belittle Man City for its lack of "history." It smacks of bitterness.
America and Monterrey are doing something other teams are having a hard time doing. Expensive squads that are difficult to crack but they're filling their voids with youth players who are performing at the level demanded. Tigres seem content to not have to ever rely on having voids by just spending more money.
because pachuca and Toluca have done better than tigres in the past, actually winning international stuff, and their fans don't make as big a deal as tigres fans when the world doesn't recognize their greatness
Toluca did for a while. And I agree, Cardozo’s Toluca was much more dominating and Pachuca is far superior on the continental stage
Tigres sigue siendo el subcampeonísimo de la Concacaf. IMO fix that and then we can start talking about them being a "grande".
The only "grande" in Mexico could be América, it's the only one that has the fans and championships in most decades. The other teams relied mostly on a dominant decade, and that's it. Tigres will never have the fans to compete with the most popular teams in Mexico, but if they get another decade like the 2010s they could start talking about some greatness.
And better fans. Toluca had potential, State of Mexico has a huge population, but even in their better days their fans (while loyal) didn't grow much.
That's a tough era, America, Pumas and Chivas carried a lot of weight at that time. Pretty hard to grow when the "Grandes" are still shining. Tigres on the other hand only has to worry about America because Chivas has been hot and cold. Pumas has been meh and Cruz azul has not been able to seal the deal.
