So how does a club go about getting into this cup? Are they prequalified some how? Do they have to qualify like a year in advanced (a la champions league)? How does it look for this year?

Mexico has 2 guaranteed spots and a third teams has to play a south american team for a spot. Since the champs from the year before are not allowed to play in the Copa Libertadores but the Concacaf Champions Cup they have to wait a year. Like this year Toluca played America in 2 leg series for the right to be Mexico 1. Toluca won so they are in next year Pachuca will face Chivas. The next two spots are decided by the interliga they take the 8 best team from the year before and then the winner of Interliga is Mexico 2 and the runner up is Mexico 3.
