My only complaint about the logo is that I wish the wings are still inside the boundary.
    Why made it sticking out..

I love wings. Grilled or fried, with hot sauce. But I don't like them sticking out of a logo.

Also, hearing in the United Mania podcast that Santino is unlikely to return as the color man on our broadcasts, I couldn't help but wonder if that was because he's from Baltimore, and everything the team is doing now it heavily focused on being so hardened "DC"-- the logo changes, the jersey, "District United", etc.

Thoughts? Could it be that simple?

Respectfully. But his Baltimore accent is hardcore, it's obvious to anyone from around here, and it stands out to anyone who isn't-- ie, that's almost everyone in DC.

We'll see how crazy I am when they announce Bowser as DJ's partner.

But seriously, I think it will end up one of WJLA/NC8's other employees.

As a color commentator? God, I hope not. After he improved (or the shock of broadcasting wore off, or both), Tino added quite a bit to those broadcasts with DJ, imho. I'd hate to see some WJLA stiff replace him, especially someone who doesn't know squat about the game.

I agree. But I've noticed sometimes that some people in the media are in the closet about soccer, and times like this they get the chance to "come out".

Of course there are also times that it becomes "other duties as assigned" and that would suck.

He was coaching the Baltimore Bohemians at the same time-- still is I think.

How about bringing Rongen back as the color commentator.

He actually wasn't a bad announcer iirc. Wonder what he's up to these days.

Haha. You don't recall correctly my friend! He was the equivalent of a wooden post in his commentary. :)

And oddly enough, we were neighbors down here in Richmond! His daughter and my daughter went to the same school and played on the same soccer team. He's a great guy and while he lived here, he was doing scouting and such for the youth US teams (and he may still be doing that for all I know). He moved recently, to N. Carolina I believe.

Actually if I had to pick a former color guy to do it post Tino, I'd go with Cirovski of course given his knowledge, but I'd give Garth Lagerway a hard look in terms of chemistry and interesting comments, if I could pick anyone.

    Zombie thread.

I was just musing on the thought that, it's one year later and United's logo already looks totally dated. It's probably not the worst in the league (Hi, Montreal!) but it's also nowhere near the top half either.

    What a wasted opportunity.

If you wait long enough a dated logo starts to look retro, like New England's has for me. DC's Pontiac Firebird logo was kinda shit but it was on its way to being retro cool. The new logo is kinda shit too but now it's a very long way off from being cool, like decades. Of course, they also could have just gone and made an amazing logo too but that's a big ask for an organization I don't trust to succeed.

I still like the original logo that preceded the '96 logo.

So, I'm thinking that if I buy a season ticket to the new stadium I probably should get a tattoo of the DCU shield. I assume that you are advising me to go retro.

This is the logo used for the 1996 and 1997 seasons: [IMG]
Was there a concept logo that preceded this?

There was a concept logo prior to the original '96. It was mostly black and white. Very similar. I recall it didn't have soccer balls at the feet. I can't find it on the web though. :-(

    That logo is beautifully terrible.
Why stop at 3 soccer balls. I think they should have put at least 10 more so people knew for sure it was for a soccer team.

There are not 10 things on the DC flag, just 3 :)

But consider: if they removed the two balls under the wingtips it would look like the eagle has just passed a very large soccer ball out his ass - which would account for his dyspeptic expression.
