So we are tracking towards the first billion euro turnover teams in terms of the big 3, with sides like Bayern, PSG and City not far behind You worry that Arsenal is stagnant and will have only 50-66% of that turnover Barcelona £741m overtook Spanish rivals Real Madrid £667m to claim top spot for the first time, becoming the first club to break through the £700m barrier. #MUFC £627m and Bayern Munich £582m retained 3rd and 4th ranking, while PSG £560m (5th) and #MCFC £538m (6th) swapped places pic.twitter.com/cIUGDEn2Xc— Swiss Ramble (@SwissRamble) January 16, 2020
On field performance has killed us Utd brand grew at the right time, sad really because they are ran by clowns and should be where we are
Didn't we used to be ensconced in the top 6 of this list? When was the last time we were out of the top 10?
Deep CL runs delivered 70-80m for Liverpool & Spurs If Utd achieve that they will be up at Barca level. It is hurting them to the thick end of 100m per season
When you pay huge money for rubbish players/performance This also goes to show just how inflated premier league salaries are now Arsenal has like 2 genuine stars? #AFC wage bill rose £9m (4%) from £223m to £232m (excluding exceptional payments), due to new signings and contract extensions, though no Champions League bonuses. This means wages have risen £32m in the last 2 years, while revenue has fallen £28m. pic.twitter.com/ANHPDBeQQ5— Swiss Ramble (@SwissRamble) March 2, 2020
Obviously. He's on Galactico money. But you said we have "2 genuine stars" (not "2 people on genuine star money")... thus my prior reply.
Just getting around to this (latest?) ArsenalVision podcast from 10 days ago. Anyway it's all focused on ownership issues and I found it surprisingly refreshing, compared to all the myriad shutdown/training/restart discussions which had become pretty stale I thought. Listen to Episode 371 - In The Spotlight - KSE from Arsenal Vision Post Match Podcast on Apple Podcasts. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/arsenal-vision-post-match-podcast/id946748561?i=1000475022813 The first part is an interview of Matt (@Giantgooner) who I'm not sure I'd heard before, but I found pretty impressive. The second part, which I'm listening to right now, is the regular crew debating ownership issues.
Yeah the AV episode is interesting. GiantGooner’s conclusion that Arsenal could be on the market in a year sounds right. Not sure who I’d want to see buy Arsenal: maybe Red Bull?
Red Bull... hmm. That would be kind of funny, since my second team has been MetroStars/NYRB. And we're already Red & White which fits perfectly... until they try to rename us RB London, or Arsenal RB. I know they're fairly reviled in much of Germany, outside of Leipzig, but I guess that's mostly because of the particular club ownership rules there. Even with my NYRB connection, I'm far from an expert on RB Football Group (or whatever they're called). But I have to say that they have done some admirable things, including: Built a terrific stadium in Harrison NJ (but then have completely failed to get butts in seats and I worry about the clubs economics) Developed a good academy which has produced a lot of good (and saleable) players Hired some pretty good coaches, who won us 3 Supporters Shields... OK not the ultimate goal, but still pretty impressive And in Germany/Austria, have had some real success challenging/winning the top league Seem to have a pretty consistent & positive philosophy between their various teams, which facilitates moving players/staff around sometimes, including Tyler Adams & Jesse Marsch
I wouldn't hate being associated with the RB teams as long as they don't try to rebrand us. That said, their MO has been to buy lower level (ie cheaper) teams or new franchises and spend to get them competitive. Doubt they would come after Arsenal assuming they have any interest in the EPL at all.
Also, RB is generally hated in Germany because they bought a low level team (Leipzig) with little to no BPL history and gained promotion through the levels by offering higher salaries and generally out spending each level until they made it to the BPL. The German fans are all about history and tradition in soccer. Had Leipzig worked their way up over 10-20 years few would have had any issues. Now that they are in the BPL they are staying competitive with good coaching and very smart buys. I actually really like their organization and how the team is being run.
Yes. Not sure if that is entirely correct but I've seen it referenced like that before and would rather type 3 letters than the full name.
And some quick poking around proves that is not a valid abbreviation. Soooo... I guess I stop using that moving forward.
I was born & raised in the US (approx 35% British ancestry though) and I have always referred to it as the EPL. Only time I even think about "Barclay's" is when I see/hear it in the FIFA games and typically I just gloss over that.
