fair enough... and thats the part I do not agree with (selling to buy) if you are bringing in money through revenue, you can buy players...
Easy big guy... it was a joke. As indicated by emoticon. Anyway, you get some credit for illiciting quite a few fairly passionate responses to an Arsenal finances thread/post. Almost like the old days w/ RickB and others who will remain nameless.
Seems like the appropriate thread for this, the Football Finance Bible for Season 09/10 has been released today by Deloitte. For those interested, here is my favorite source for understanding where Arsenal legitimately are in the world of Football Business: http://www.deloitte.com/assets/Dcom...ies/Sports Business Group/UK_SBG_DFML2011.pdf Enjoy!
Our commercial revenue is really lagging far behind (Man City, Schalke and Hamburg are ahead of us). Gazidis out!
don't think this is on Gazidis, and Arsenal is aware of this serious issue and addressing it. Tom Fox was brought in about 18 months ago to address the commercial revenues, but this recent Deloitte data doesn't give him enough Fox enough time to make a big impact, IMO. Looks like Arsenal continues to address this issue with recent moves to ensure Commercial revenues aren't a problem going forward. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/arsenal-invests-in-its-commercial-operation
anyone else remember how awful our website was in 2000? was worse than a high school kids webpage. it almost seems like we didnt care about global marketing until 5 or 6 years ago. maybe less.
From Tim Payton: No word on exactly what we're selling. Shares, players, Bendtner's good looks? Anyway, more money for Wenger not to spend. Whooo! [edit]Arsenal plans to sell Queensland Rd. site to developer. We'd known that already, yeah?[/edit]
At the wolves game, I was in the upper tier of the Clock End and at halftime I got a burger and I looked out the window and there seems to be some construction. At the Emirates Cup this summer there wasn't anything. Asked one person and he said he didn't know what it was. Maybe it is part of the development plan?
I suppose that would be Queensland Rd. When I was there in 08 it was just a bunch of automobile repair shops, etc. I think it's the next/last part of the master RE development plan... to turn this into some "nicer" mixed use property. Not really something I'm way up on, so I stand ready to be corrected if I'm wrong.
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...to-a-long-haul-summer-trip-article704131.html Arsenal set to make 15 million GBP on Japanese pre-season tour.
Arsenal loss http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12597618 Seems the press are having a field day at our expense. These hacks need to realise that a loss per se, in any industry, does not signal financial ill-health. Besides, isn't United in millions of debt? Didn't Chelsea lose money last year?
Re: Arsenal loss oh noes a 2.5 million pound loss. That's miniscule in the world of football. Move along folks.
Re: Arsenal loss Its hardly a sensationalist story, it quotes Gazadis and PWH fairly and finishes on a positive note which basically makes it a non-story. Seems ok to me.
Re: Arsenal loss Can we merge this with the finances thread? I keep accidentally clicking on it thinking it's football related.
Re: Arsenal loss I put in an article from the AST in the finances thread forecasting this loss last month
Re: Arsenal loss in the context of things, you have to say we are getting hosed from here on out. http://www.synergy-sponsorship.com/...lever-arsenal-emirates-stadium-naming-rights/
Re: Arsenal loss That's all relative. Clearly the City deal is artificially inflated by the owners, so that can't be the true benchmark. It was also surely tough for Arsenal to lose more time exploring financial options when they had what was at the time a very solid offer staring them in the face. Thus, even if they could've done better would it have been worth the extra time, risk and effort? I also think there is a bona fide tertiary benefit from having a sponsor from a growing market/demographic. Apart from the amount the club is directly reaping from this contract I've no complaints about them as a sponsor. Again, the bigger issue is that even with all the financial benefits Arsenal have created for themselves, at least two clubs are out there in a stronger position because they get to play around with someone else's money. None of this would be an issue is there was something close to financial fair play.
Re: Arsenal loss THAT IS THE PROBLEM! fly emirates makes me think of chelsea football club, but if they pay current market value, i dont care at all.
Re: Arsenal loss Same here, and as Emirates sponsors more and more teams, the Arsenal identity dilutes substantially. I hate shirt naming deals, but O2 was the best sponsor from a shirt POV.
JVC must be the iconic Arsenal shirt sponsor. That said, as long as we get good compensation for sponsorship, IMO it's little issue how many clubs Emirates sponsors. They have to pay us per the sponsorship contract, and from their angle sponsorship gets their name across better, so the more channels carrying their name the better for them.
