When I originally saw the article about what it would take for Crew to make the playoffs, I thought the author was talking about the 2020 playoffs. I was wrong.
We were talking Dispatch specifically and then you expanded into other media. Talking print, the Atlanta paper is really bad (my brother gets it) and I was hard pressed to find much in the Boston Globe (though they do have a soccer correspondent) or the Denver papers on visits there. The Inky in Philly is much the same, though a bitbetter. And, just in a quick glance at the Cincy Enquirer's website shows FC waaaay down the page quite a bit after the Reds, Bengals, and Ohio State--with about the same number of articles as in the Dispatch. Again, given the state of print these days--with limited resources/cutbacks all over in both staff and size of product--we're not too bad off here. Sure, we'd all like more. But this isn't Europe.
I'd like to see Diaz beating someone without the speed. Corona megged Dest and Rodriguez pushed it around him before both got crosses off. I'd like to see someone like that out wide. Mohktar supposedly has the skill from what we were told but I haven't seen it yet from him either.
Guys, I know that the Dispatch coverage is lacking. I know that local media sources are terrible. I know that Massive Report reads like an emo kids Live Journal from the late 90’s early 2000’s. But cut them some slack. I have it on inside sources that some of these guys cover the Browns too! And Ohio State! Sure their product is garbage, but just give it a few years. In a few years, everything will be okay. We’ll have great dedicated coverage from multiple outlets. Massive Report will display an remedial understanding of the game, and that there are other teams in the league. Television and radio media will acknowledge our existence. Just give it a few more years till we have everything in place....
Well, Hang's is one way to look at it. But it wasn't that long ago when the only news in town was Soccer America--and that often weeks later. Perhaps that colors my opinion some. I remember those days well. That, and coverage's got to make financial sense. We draw sellouts--we get more coverage. Pretty simple. So some of that's up to us fans.
