Although not an apologist, I'm probably more forgiving of Wenger's mis-steps on here than some. That being said, loaning an offensive minded player like Gnabry baffled me from day one. Never understood the logic behind that.

After a year on the sidelines probably one of the few teams that came asking, though why Pulisic would ask is also a mystery.

I’d give Wenger a pass if this wasn’t part of a pattern of loan spells that didn’t help player development. The last 6 years of his tenure we saw nothing but waste of time loans.

Also gnabbers was that rare thing

    A goal scoring wide player

Surely he was worth more of a time investment than iwobi or welstrozz?

It's been annoying that he has gone on to deliver top seasons in Germany when a number of us said at the time he would be a big player

Hopefully we see youngsters like amn improve as they now will receive tactical instruction

I think many were surprised that no clubs came in stronger for Danny. Just read that Emery seems keen on him as an utility player—he said they even trained with him at LB.

I find this interesting—seemed to work okay for Ashley young. Could Danny reinvent himself as a wingbacl/fullback?

Of course his injury history might be even more of a concern at LB.

He never links. Citing is not his thing. (I am not saying Sid Lowe didn't say it)

If I remember correctly, I believe I heard Sid Lowe state this on a podcast...either ESPN FC or some other. He said the thought was Emery may be able to get more out of the players by providing more tactical training and more intense training in general...or something to that effect, can’t remember it exactly.

I've heard that said by a lot of pundits. The proof will be in the pudding. And the pudding may take a full season or so to make.

That's your basis? Eek Jitters - maybe you're focusing on what's behind the Times paywall (I ain't giving money to Rupert Schmupert).

The allegation (to save looking up all the times we discussed this already) was that Wenger was not doing any enough preparation for games whereas Emery does do this.

So for example the Guardiola workflow is not to do general tactical work in the season as once games start flowing 2 games per week there is no time for it.

Rather Guardiola immediately hits the videos of his opponent to create the bespoke game plan/tactics. Players will be given individual videos and they train the tactical prep for the game.

This sort of indepth game prep is common with modern managers - and it is a high workload with games often coming every 3-4 days

According to Lowe Wenger did little of this work.

As you know, my view is Wenger was failing on the margins. IMO he was very good at some high level stuff - especially up until 2013 but failed in a lot of detail aspects. Indeed it was in the detail that Jose toppled him in 2005

You're reading in a lot of shade that isn't necessarily there. I think Ted (as is his custom) has the best take:

    Yep

    The details matter

Emery could be a big fail just like Lowe said
