This was basically the "Rip off 'They Live' and 'Inception'" episode, but I still liked it. I'm not sure how I feel about the chalkboard exposition. I thought it was a visually interesting way of doing it, but I'm never to fond of any scene where one of the characters explains part of the plot to the audience.
Agreed After the brilliance of episode 5, I felt there was a lot of poor script writing here. As you already pointed out, the exposition was terrible Then the escape was rather lame IMO Why does the big bad suddenly kill the Eye? It is never explained how the Eye is going around the hospital like a bad arse Oliver seems more like a plot device than a real character - providing just enough help to advance the story David then escapes to rescue everyone just in time meh
I doubt that the reality they escape to is actual reality. Mostly because Oliver is there and there is no explanation given as to how he escaped the astral plane after all that time. On the subject of the Eye, I think the idea is that Lenny/The Shadow King gave him some autonomy within the world she created because he was useful, for a time.
I agree Summerland is probably not level 0. Oliver annoyed the hell out of me I have to say. His music thing was actually a decent idea, but then the big bad appears and throws him against the wall - then leaves again. So what was the point? I felt with the Eye - why bother with so much development of him for the big bad suddenly to kill him off for no reason Also I really doubt this world is operating according to any consistent rules. The girls can't use their powers in the astral plane but the eye, oliver and david seemingly could? Also the doctor seemed to be able to do all kinds of stuff in the astral plane.
So the last episode of the season was also the most conventional one. I have to say that it was a bit underwhelming, though I did like the cold open with Clark's family.
Agreed, though all in all it was an impressive season one, even if the last episode felt a bit rushed and conventional.
