those midgets are nice to have but i want someone with athletic qualities (big, fast, strong) playing next to son heungmin during his prime. doesnt even have to be good. just be a physical presence and the scapegoat we can all take a shit on after a bad match

We will never witness any foreign player to get Korean citizenship and play for our NT unfortunately. So we have to stick with what's available :p
If you like physical strikers, you should hope that "little" Lee Keun Ho from Pohang develops well, although I think he's not that talented.

Closest to "foreign" we might witness in our NT is probably the half-Moroccan wonderkid Won Taehun whom the Korean media is praising as the Korean Messi.

Can he really be the Korean Messi or will he turn out to be LSW Jr?

Didn't know he was half-Moroccan. Thought his Dad would be from Middle East or something.

Possible, but the kid seems to be patriotic to Korea based on the show he came out on.

Dad is Moroccan and Mom is Korean although there's a rumor that the mom is actually from Yanbian. He goes by his mom's surname, which I assume is because Korea doesn't allow foreign surnames for a Korean citizen.

I'm not sure if he has Chinese citizenship.

Korean news articles say he is a dual citizen in Morocco and Korea, nothing about China.

I did some research and it turns out his mom indeed is a Joseonjok from Harbin who moved to Korea after finishing college in China.

Unlike many Joseonjoks who have roots in NK, her roots are in Andong, Gyeongsang Province according to her interview.

I think I did read somewhere that Yanbian Joseonjoks are mostly from NK while Harbin Joseonjoks are mostly from SK.

A son of a Morroccan immigrant and a Joseonjok mom. I really wish this guy becomes big to give hope for other guys like him.

So isn't this kid eligible to play for China PR according to FIFA regulations on the matter?

Don't you need to have Chinese citizenship?

I don't think he speaks Chinese by the way.

I think FIFA allows one to represent a nation of which his grandparent or parent is a national of. So if this kid has at least one grandparent who holds citizenship of China PR, he can represent them.

Fifa doesn't even need someone to hold official documentation (or family) to represent a country. If your family is from a certain country fifa will give the green light. I am not to sure to what degree of blood line fifa accepts. An example are zidane sons. They have the option to represent Algeria even if they were born in Europe.

My biggest fear is if this kid becomes a phenom and china tries to poach him with a bunch of money( like how they poach our best minds to work for their company).

If he develops into someone even worth capping then I doubt he'd throw away his international career to play for China, where he doesn't even have any cultural roots.
