considering that Beckham is thinking about moving his option for a MLS franchise to LV this topic deserves to be hotter
There were several stories (all, apparently, riffing off one report - quickly denied - by a "Las Vegas blogger") back in December to that effect. But that's enough for some people to believe it's true.
Well the Raiders Stadium may be back from the dead. What impact that may have on the NASL or MLS aspirations of Vegas remains to be seen. http://raiderswire.usatoday.com/201...plete-financing-on-raiders-las-vegas-stadium/
It'll only affect MLS if Beckham decides to move his team to Vegas, and MLS allows it. NASL, no idea.
So. Beckham was tied to the Sands group, headed by Adelson, who pulled out of the Raiders deal 100% Beckham/Miami > Las Vegas is dead. It's so dead. It's not there.
I'm pretty certain NASL will go to any metro area in which a competent* investment group is willing to invest in. NASL can't just "go there" wherever they like. Someone needs to go there, and choose NASL over USL in which to do it with. *I'm hopeful they are properly analyzing what new investor groups are willing and able (many of the failed in American soccer history were only one of those two, willing but not able, or able but not willing) to bring to the table at this point, instead of just handing over the forms and taking the checks.
because he was bold and fearless and shared my vision, a Nasl coping with MLS, and I will always remember how he saved aborted expansion in OKC, to me he is not right that he got the blame for what happened. Let's analyze it correctly. He could not know that Martin Presa would have stepped out after a year and that Tampa and Ottawa would have changed league. He had to fight against two big leagues in a row and don't forget that thanks to him Nasl got aired in Bein and CBS. I hope new commissioner maybe will be more moderate about his tones but will soon follow the same policy about expansions, so that the league will boast about 16 teams in three/four years and will be a competitor for MLS and their flunky USL
You do realize trying to compete with MLS is what nearly killed both the NASL and your beloved Cosmos right?
maybe it was some bad luck and it was not the right time yet but competing against MLS is rightful and I hope that once Nasl reaches 12 teams they will restart talking about trying to get D1 status coping with MLS in various top markets and coming before MLS in San Diego, Detroit and Las Vegas (if Beckham decides to try there)
I hope they first focus on becoming a stable league that is considered the second best league in the US.
