New stadium coming to Vegas in 2020? Oakland Raiders file Las Vegas relocation paperwork If the Raiders are given the green light to move, they likely wouldn't relocate to their proposed, 65,000-seat stadium in Las Vegas until 2020.
What makes you say that? A new stadium would be needed for MLS to be in Vegas, and now there will be one in a few years. Will Raiders share Las Vegas with David Beckham MLS franchise? Time ticking on Beckham's Miami MLS team amid deadline, Las Vegas speculation NFL stadium backers in Las Vegas are down to two top sites for Raiders "Proponents also promised it would house UNLV’s football team, which has long sought a stadium closer to campus, and hinted that an unnamed Major League Soccer franchise was also interested in using the space."
Well considering they need to have their bid in to the league in 12 days... That and of course market saturation being a big concern with 2 Big 4 teams having just taken up residence in the area.
That's just for teams 25 and 26, plenty of markets that are interested in MLS will still be without a team at that point. And I really doubt MLS stops expanding at 28 either, there are plenty of people who argued on BS that it would stop at 20 and 24...
Also doesn't factor in the involvement of this Red Bulls season ticket holder who happens to be the president of the company bringing the Raiders to Vegas.
Every new market or prospective market gets railed in one way or another. To be fair, though, the comment you responded to isn't without merit. The "Vegas might happen" news has been popping up for years, for all levels on the soccer pyramid
Poor baby. Again, "haters" is a term millennials made up. We don't hate Las Vegas or its prospective fans. But people open themselves up for getting their balls busted when they are fanboyishly optimistic and when their rhetoric writes checks that reality can't cash. Just your turn in the box, kid.
I'm 36. Nobody is being fanboyish saying NASL or USL is more likely to come here. You just get your jollies by coming here to shoot everybody. Which, whatever, get your jollies.
My point is is that while there are cases of MLS & NFL teams sharing cities in harmony, I feel Vegas is a transient community where only winning teams can be supported fervorously. So, for soccer, unless Beckham finally snaps out of this delusional "Miami MLS" crap, it's probably safer to aim lower if you want any soccer in Las Vegas.
I agree with this pretty much. We'll see if the Golden Knights are terrible how many people show up. I was at a UNLV basketball game the other day and it was less than half full. I wouldn't mind a USL team in Sam Boyd. I just decided to put kenn on my ignore list because his main thing is going from forum to forum and pretending he's an anchor on Fox News, shouting at people.
This is the argument I make whenever the question of "Could they support MLS?" comes up, especially to those who say "They should do it because it would be a great road trip!" Away fans does not a franchise make
Pretty sure the bids being submitted are for more than 25-26. My understanding is these bids are for the next 4 spots after Miami (assuming Miami doesn't get bumped).
I'm all for more teams and more opportunities for players and all and looking back at the Vegas threads, I remember really loving to have a team in LV. Seriously though, a soccer stadium playing indoors in the summer kind of takes away from the atmosphere of the game. Also, if they play outside on the other hand, wouldn't players risk heat exhaustion, especially during the day? June 100° F July 106° F August 103° F September 95° F
In theory yes, but it will still be in the mid 80's on average and could get into the 90's quite easily even in November.
Being well practiced in 106 degrees would make them well prepared for playing at a chilly 80 degrees.
