I suppose if he contacted every team in one of the top 5 leagues and those were the only ones who did not deny interest, then narrowing it down from 100 teams to 13 isn't bad. I'd be very surprised if he did that though.

Apparently they need someone who can put a penalty kick on frame also.

I have a question and it may be really dumb, but I'm going to ask it anyway.

The Galaxy are obviously quite reluctant to let Landon go during the season - it would basically spell disaster for their playoff hopes. What if a team were to buy Landon now and then loan him to MLS (Galaxy) until the end of the MLS season, after which Landon joins his new team? Are there rules against such an arrangement? If such a deal were struck, would Donovan still have to wait until January before joining his new team?

I don't think he can be registered for two different leagues at the same time

Not that I am aware of...but unless they want to do this to prevent a bidding war with other clubs, I don't see why any club would want to do this. What if he got injured playing an MLS match? Who would pay his salaries? Who would release him for NT matches?

Most clubs that make these purchases would loan a player out only if they are not in their immediate plans and want them to gain experience playing regurlary - not the case here.

Clubs that usually secure players before they can report to their clubs are usually those that can walk out on a free transfer at the end of the season.

If ANY deal was struck, LD would have until Aug 31st before the deadline on this transfer window closes. If he misses that, he's have to shoot for the winter transfer window.

I would finally have a name to toss on the back of my 07/08 kit.

Perhaps I'm alone in my hope that Landon goes to spain. I think a team like espanyol or valencia would fit perfectly (I know nothing of their personelle, only that they are mid-table teams and that IMO la liga would fit landon wonderfully)

you're not the only one on BS that's hoping landon goes to spain.

i dunno about valencia, though. they have a lot of quality players already in the attacking mid/winger positions.

and they have really ugly new kappa jerseys. i don't want to buy one...:D

After real and barca, valencia is the biggest club in spain.

Yeah, and play for Hugo Perez?

I want many more Americans in Spain...purely selfish reasons, though.

As for Valencia...they need to be thrifty these days.

Espanyol and Genoa would be nice destinations for Landon IMO.

Right, so... sell David Silva for about about €45M, which is probably close to his current valuation, and buy Landon for €8M of it.

QFT. Landon would be, at best, the 3rd or 4th midfielder off the bench.

he actually played under Hugo Sanchez  (and this was before Hugo Sanchez took over at Almeria in real life)

Silva is not worth anywhere near that, and they look like they are not selling him

there is a rumor about Mata potentially leaving though

You're right... Valencia is actually asking for about €30M. Was looking at older valuations of him. I'm sure they'd sell him, though, if anyone met the valuation. No one's buying at the moment.

Well kinda... It'll depend on how he does. Here's what a Eurosport Russia writer said about him:

Yeah, he might not be as good as Donovan but he fills a similar role, ie attacking midlfielder/winger combo hybrid.

    Interesting.

10mm GBP would likely pry Donovan out of MLS's clutches, but they went for Bilyaletdinov.

Bilya has two things going for him that LD doesn't: 1. he's 23, and 2. from a Euro league, which a fair reputation right now for producing some good premiership players (e.g., Vidic).

Are you saying "he might not" like he isn't or "he might not" like you're not too familiar with him so you can't say?

If if is the former, you are quite mistaken.

It was the second one. I haven't seen him play recently, but I though he'd kind of fallen off the Russian NT radar. He is younger though.
