maybe so but that all they can do is keep possion, they cant do anything else very well. its cracks me up when mexicans think that just by dominating possesion means there the better team when they also cant put it in the net which is the point of soccer.

Like people have said so far, i hope he can go to la liga, and he said in his interview he had a very very bad time in germany, like it was a nightmare. WIth that said seeing how he is very supersticious(sp) and wants another crack at euro football i dont see him going to germany, and more so to spain. He said in his interview he plays latin soccer, not the typical american style, which i took as making a break for italy or spain as this is where he probably knows too he'd thirve at.

Well they do tend to win, which is even more the point. Having watched a lot of CCC, Sudamericana and Libertadores games, I am quite confident in saying that the only country in all of the Americas whose club teams have a winning record against the Mexican teams in the last 5 or so years is Brazil. So they do put it in the net enough to win against almost everybody in this hemisphere.

Now their finishing could certainly use some improvement, but if they could not put the ball in the net, how do you explain their winning the past two CCCs, Pachuca winning the Sudamericana recently and their many appearances in the semifinals and finals of the libertadores. They sure as hell are not winning penalty shootouts after 0-0 ties. The Mexican teams SUCK at penalties.

As for Donovan, I think he has a bit of a sweetheart deal in MLS. His current combination of salary, playing time, and effort needed to produce is much better here than he would find in some of the top leagues. In Spain he would be going up against a lot of the top South Americans for a very valuable non-UEFA spot. There is no way on Earth he would get the salary in Argentina that he gets here. Many of their cast-offs, like Christian Gomez and Juan Toja, probably make more money here than they could in Argentina. Toja and Gomez were below average players in Argentina. Given their success in MLS, that does not bode well for Donovan making much of an impact in Argentina, much less Spain. I think he could do well in a Holland or Portugal.

Personally i believe the reason why Tjoa and Gomez do better in the MLS is the physicality of the game here, that style suits them both well, and i feel would play great in england for instance, where its pretty rough. Both are technically well for MLS, but in argentina alot of through ball, ground play and creativity is asked out of you, gomez has this as does toja, but that style was did not compliment them both well enough to give them alot of playing time, and did not suit them well.

But anyway thats off topic, from whats going on above. Personally the mexicans have the deep pockets to ahve their top squads like america and pachuca, and chivas where they can buy great players and bring very competitve teams to CL and do awsome. The top teams of the FMF are right there with boca, sao paulo, river, Flamengo, Cruziero, etc. They got the pockets to take away the best players from argnetina and strong players frmo other leagues in the Sudamerica, which in turn makes them better cause of their payroll. America pays insua something like 2.5 million a year. Thats a damn good salary considering that its not even in europe.

    Agree with #29.

I'm an MLS fan, but to say that Mexican league teams can't play, well... you must be referring to the ones that best us regularely in CCC, Copa libertadores, and superliga. Yes, MLS teams can compete and win more and more regularely, which I am proud of, but our best team of the last two years has been beat out in international club competition by a team from Mexico. It must be that team that you are referring to.

Landon to Argentina: The money isn't there. The interest isn't there, from Argentina. Why pay a player from the USA to do what the kid who grew up two blocks from the stadium can do better? doesn't make sense.

Landon to Mexico: He is a big star in Mexico, probably bigger there than here. He regularely gets mobbed for autographs in Mexico. In an interview on tv he laughed and compered that to the US where, 9 times out of 10 he is not even recognized in public. The interest is there. The money is there. His skill's are there to play the latin game. I believe he would do even better in mexico as it is a more posession oriented game vs the more physical play in MLS.

Landon to Portugal: I like it. It's a good league. Top two teams get Eurpoean competitoin. Decent pay. Hop-skip-jump to La Liga or Seria A if he does well.

    GOOO 'QUAKES!!!!

Believe it or not, when it comes to big teams like BOCA they'd look into it. They have shown in the past that they are willing to go after a decent foreigner if it will sell more shirts and if they have the goods to play in argentina. In 2000 i believe they went After Japaneese Goal Scorer Takahara because of the big interest they have in Japan and they wanted to make a good Marketing/PR move by getting their best goal scorer at the time. He didnt play to well for htem, but did his job in getting their name out there.

A year or possibly 2 ago, they were thinking in investing in Eddie Johnson the rumor had it, to grow the boca name in the US, so kids can be rocking boca' jerseys with Johnson on the back.

I would have loved to see Eddie in argentina, they could have molded him into a world class striker before his jump to the EPL, but who knows.

I think Landon could start up front with Palacios seeing how Palermo is almost done but thats just my US opinion dreaming here .:p

I have always said that Donovan would thrive in Mexico. His game is perfect for that league. And the lifesyle would suit him well. Put him in a Club America shirt and let the magic happen. Aguilas fans would love him. Everyone else would hate him. Nobody would ignore him.

And all of you that doubt the quality of the Mexican league are nuts. Yes, the style is different from anywhere else on earth. And to me, the matches often seem slow without much tactical sophistication. The the players are very technical. And the top clubs have the ability to adjust when they play in Copa Libertadores and the CONCACAF Champion's Cup. And that speaks volumes.

You must have been watching a different superliga than I was... MLS teams more than held their own, despite the fact that Pachuca narrowly beat one of the worst MLS teams in the final... Of course, you could say that the Mexican teams were playing in the US (despite the "home fans" mostly rooting for them) and were not fully into their season...

As for the CCC, saying that MLS failure (at a time of the year when none of the MLS teams had played a meaningful game in several months) indicates that the MFL teams are better is the same as the fools that say that MLS sides beating a prem team in the summer means that MLS is at least as good as the premiership...

I happen to BELIEVE that the best MFL teams are better than the best MLS teams (but not by much)... but there is no proof of that... tournaments will need to be held when both leagues are in season and under completely level home-and-home series (btw, have you noticed how the second leg of the tie in the CCC seems to almost always be in Mexico?)... I do suspect that the worst MLS teams are better than the worst first division MFL teams, but again, until there are meaningful and level competitions, all of this is just smoke...

Well, seeing as how Landy isn't eligible to play for the Mexican Nats, we all assumed it was a given that all posts were referring to club footy.

It sounds really easy just to pay players more, but Beckham is paying his own salary. Just in "BECKHAM #23" jersey sales he payed for it. 95% of us would take it and not look back, life is not fair.

They're club ball IMO is number 3 in the america's, although they pay the best for sure.

With that said though, they're league is pretty good but MLS is catching up little by little. MLS will be on par in 15yrs IMO. Maybe less if we can get into the CL anytime soon.

BTW, did I mention that the Mexican goalkeepers (aside of Ochoa and Sanchez) totally suck?

i guess u haven't seen much of Federico Vilar, Adrian Martinez, Oscar Perez, Hernan Cristante, Luis Ernesto Michel and Jorge Villalpando lately.

But yeah the MFL teams do have some LAME GK's like Jorge Bava, Moises Munoz, and Christian Martinez:eek:

Landon is right, at the end you get the quality you pay for, the problem here is why would a talented kid choose soccer with a starting salary of 30 K, when the NBA could pay a couple of hundred thousands for a newbie.

And if he goes for soccer, what stops that kid from going to Europe or Mexico and make more money and play in a more recognized league ?

Landon will go to Europe soon, I doubt he feels comfortable with gals after Beckham arrived, I would say England.

Adrian Martinez has a lateral agility of a whale.

"El Conejo" Perez hasn't been any good for half a decade.

    Cristante is like 76.

Vilar isn't bad but he isn't a Mexican.

    Michel is inconsistent.

Oh, my God .... do I really know this much about the MFL?

    I am truly ashamed.
