OK, so I admit this arrived out of left field, & nothing is certain, but...Landon might not actually be done yet:https://t.co/LWd79nzdsf— Charles Boehm (@cboehm) December 29, 2016
We learned last week he had been at Rio Tinto Stadium interviewing, but whether about playing or coaching or both we are not sure. We've been discussing it on our board for several days now.
Wondering if RSL is also considering LD. Could be an interesting player/coach opportunity. There's a homesickness joke in here as well. I suspect LD wouldn't at all mind playing for Arena for the next year and half as well.
Think of the shirt sales revenue. He'll probably negotiate a piece of that new pie as well, if he signs as a player.
Do you think? As a RSL fan this doesn't get me excited for 2017 or motivate me to renew my season tickets. We just had older Burrito Martinez and Javi Morales leave. This doesn't seem like the solution to the hole in the offense. I also wasn't impressed with LD's return last year, if that is any sign of what could come in 2017.
Is anyone else just ready for LD to be done? This whole indecision to play or not to play is exhausting. I wouldn't want him anywhere near my locker room at this point.
I'm still wondering if this isn't about coaching. As a player, yeah, I'm not real sure I would welcome the distraction. And with a rebuilding team like RSL, I don't know if I'd want to potentially send a message that you don't have any ideas.
It's totally about coaching. With Vagenas in as GM and Onalfo as head coach LD was left with no slot to move into in the foreseeable future. If he does go to RSL he'll probably act as a player/coach until a full time head coaching gig pops up.
Fair enough. There are all types of fans. And for all we know he is possibly just going there to coach in some capacity.
Well, now that just sounds silly. BREAKING: The @cboehm rumors are true. I can confirm that Real Salt Lake has offered a two-year DP deal to Landon Donovan.— Blake Thomsen (@blakecthomsen) December 29, 2016
Can confirm that Landon Donovan has also just been offered a deal from an eastern conference team in addition to RSL offer. #MLS— Julie Stewart-Binks (@JSB_TV) December 29, 2016
Money talks, *&^%#@(/ walks. LD needs to find a way to support the lifestyle he's accustomed to, and given his history there are teams that think they can get production out of him. I'm glad the LAG have passed. I believe that the FC Dallas model has affected other teams in more ways than we realize.
Pretty cool move if it happens. Always had a bit of a soft spot for RSL because of Mathis. And leaving the Galaxy could be just the motivator Donovan needs to get a few more years in.
That would be the Juan Sebastian Veron route. http://www.estudiantesdelaplata.com/veron-es-nuevamente-jugador-de-estudiantes/ Took a break for a year from July '13 to July '14, played a year, retired, and now is back again.
My girlfriend characterized this as MLS's version of Brett Favre to the Vikings. Possibly productive, but it feels weird.
I see your point but I've been back and forth ad nauseam on the question myself - and remain ambivalently undecided - make up your mind, already! [LD, I mean.]
