There’s an hour until kick off and this is what the North End already looks like... the rest of the League isn’t ready for this #LAFC pic.twitter.com/329cQAPqSP— Julia Poe (@byjuliapoe) April 30, 2018
Hey guys. Just a question for all you LAFC fans, particularly anybody who goes week in, week out to games. Presumably anybody in the LA area who liked football and wanted to go and watch live football went and followed the Galaxy. I really can't understand how a brand new club in an area that already has a club can attract so many fans. I suppose that there is possibly some former Chivas fans but excluding them where does the fanbase come from? Are there many former Galaxy fans? If so why did they stop supporting Galaxy to support LAFC. Would most of the support have previously been Galaxy fans? If so why did they never support the football team in their area prior to the establishment of LAFC? Just for clarification, I'm just genuinely curious and not "having a go" or anything like that. Thanks in advance.
Los Angeles is the center of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, with 13.1 million residents, and is part of the larger Los Angeles-Long Beach combined statistical area, the second most populous in the nation with a estimated population of 18.7 million.
I'm fully aware of how large an urban area LA is but what I'm getting it as who did LAFC fans support before LAFC existed? Did they support Galaxy? If they did why did they change allegiance? If they didn't why not?

The metro in LA is 18 million plus people and huge number of them might watch the Galaxy but alot of people weren't really fans or supporters of the team. LAFC are playing in the city center and have great marketing in the community. Their new stadium is right in the mist of all the revitlization of downtown Los Angeles and rubbing shoulders with the other big teams who play in the city center: Dodgers, Lakers, Clippers, Kings, USC football, etc. The Galaxy play way out in Carson and never was fully embraced by LA championships and all. They were considered corporate and quite a bit of people consider their jersey sponsor, Herbalife, a cult group. They have respect and fans but far from what they should be in stature in the city imo
This is a sick piece of art that doubles as a heroic banner. This is the new LA soccer supporter culture. Love it. https://ift.tt/2GdcEF3
This weekend marks the anniversary of our first Black & Gold Rally. We unveiled our name with a declaration it represents more than the number of tickets in The North End — but a football first union and movement unlike any other in Los Angeles.
U raise a good question. My opinon...No doubt chiva fans are the base for the supporters group the Spanish chants,+.guys w lafc hats and the red stripe shirts + El tried shirts etc....but the majority are just la soccer fans that have I think adopted a new team w solid owners and great facility. Lots of families at the games similar to Galaxy games. Train+ Location of stadium makes it very appealing as a social event. Lots of woman at games too. Side note.. As for me i invested in season tiks because I enjoy soccer and it's closer then Carson.plus they are easy to sell and i can take the train. I live far away. Lafc will contue to grow if they win trophies or they will be like clippers. Now come Derby day who do I support? I'll see you at game .
