I don't see a joint FCC-Crew USL team happening. I could easily see a Crew affiliated USL team in Cleveland. And a Crew affiliated NWSL team either here or in NE Ohio. The college matches have never charged admission that I know of, apart from the Senn match at OSU. There used to also be a charity match at Obetz for Keith Evans, a Columbus policeman killed on the job. We'd usually bring in our top minor league affiliate such as Pittsburgh or Cincinnati (pre-FCC) for it.
Most men are like straight bourbon. Strong and offensive to many, but will kick your ass. Women are like my wife's mudslides. Sweet, just like candy, but will also kick you ass - therefore far more dangerous. I enjoy women's soccer. I find grace in the midst of viciousness irresistible.
Y’know...it’s funny you mention that! We have an introduction to make tomorrow morning, too 😊 https://t.co/xVz4AfQiCX— Columbus Eagles FC (@ColumbusEagles) December 6, 2018 Hmmmmm
Dooley. The man needs a job. When you've been fired by the Philippines , there's not much left for you
Thought this belonged here even though it's not Crew related. Mods, get fukt. Dong Arber said in today's SoTL Address, '[MLS] wanted to leave [investment in women's soccer] to independent entities. And let them make their own way .' TRANSLATION: The women's game can get fukt.
I sort of agree with Garber here. The league in general can't afford to play like they're the NBA. It's a neverending money sink, and most of the league doesn't need to be adding further money fires just because.
I agree with you, and if he'd said what you said above, I would have agreed with him. I got the impression that reality wasn't part of his answer, and he didn't use it even though valid and an easy PR dodge. It seemed much more dismissive to me.
Could the Crew have a Crew 2 in USL League 1 and a Cleveland team in USL Championship or are teams limited to an affiliate in one league or the other? There's already a Cleveland expansion bid in the Championship so the latter team would not need to be Crew-owned.
My ideal setup Crew and She-Crew (NWSL) at new stadium Crew 2 (USL League 1), U-23 (USL League 2)* and Eagles** at MAPFRE main field Top farm team (USL Championship) in Cleveland - likely the Cleveland Force expansion bid getting a deal on rent at the Browns' Stadium in exchange for being the affiliate * Ideally this team would be called Crew-23 (a pun on U-23) ** Would a move up to UWS from NWSL make sense if the team had a modicum of Crew backing?
Insanely stupid. Has to be one or the other IMO. Or, just buy and make the Eagles the ladies Crew team, or whatever you wanted to call it. Of course, if that happens, how many on that roster remains? There are 9 teams in the first division, and about 140 teams in the two separate second divisions, so I imagine the Eagles squad is not at first division level. With 140 teams, the talent pool is really deluded among teams. NWSL has been around 6 years, and already had 2 contractions and 1 relocation. If there is gonna be a team in Cbus (which I'm all for) then all the resources available need to be focus on a single team to try and make them as viable as possible.
The current players I know of on the Eagles were top d1 players. I don’t know if any of them got looks from the Nats or not.
Sorry, I meant a move up to UWS (the league formed when the USL dropped the W-League) from the WPSL. I was tired when I typed the prior post.
"She-Crew". Wow. Just wow. If I coined that term the NPC's would be all over me like stink on a monkey. Thank God you said it. Everybody knows you're one of the good people.
I'd love to see a WPSL team here in Cbus. Seems easy to me... Buy the eagles move the brand up, ???, Profit
Even then, it's a questionable prospect without several money-grabbing tours of friendlies against the usual suspects.
