    Quakes won 2-1. That's all I know.

Maybe we should move them up quickly!

Minus the grandfathers, might this have been the result on ESPN2, as well?

I attended -- seemingly only Quakes fan who did so. There were about 20-30 Galaxy fans on hand.

Although match was announced for noon, it apparently started at 11 am. So I missed the first third or so. Evidently was 1-1 when I arrived. The winning goal, which I saw, was a breakaway pass to one of our forwards (Ricketts?) which was deftly deposited in the back of the net about midway through the second half.

So if it was Ricketts, how was his work-rate?

Looked okay to me. But (1) the overall tempo of the match appeared to be slower than a regular match; (2) I wasn't focused on his play specifically; and (3) I am no expert, to say the least.

Was it slower than a Peninsula Soccer League or was it more like College/PDL or USL ball?

What was the lineup? Do we have enough players to field a reserve team? Who coached?

Why can't the Earthquakes sign Luis Figo for next year since Figo's contract runs out with Inter Milan in June??

So, why was Rickett's sent off in the 75' of the game?

BTW, Nice to see Adam Smarte doing well.

Also worth noting Jamil & Troy Roberts were playing in the same game against each other. They grew up in the San Jose area.

Wow that's a pretty strange match.

    - Adam Smarte wins a penalty and scored the winner.
    - The famous Michael Ricketts is sent off with a straight red card.
    - Mike Muñoz is back! Or maybe he was a guest player since the game was in LA.
    - Who the ******** are Adam Sloustcher and Mike Kerry?

i want to see that goal.

i was impressed with a move that ryan johnson did thursday, except his final service was terrible... ...or maybe it was just that no one was in the box?

Sloustcher is a former member of the U-17 residency program at Bradenton who didn't make it onto the final U-17 roster for any major tournament. He just finished up at Loyola Marymount after transferring from North Carolina. He's from Pleasanton.

My Google-fu is powerless against Mike Kerry. There is a Michael Carey who played for Union College, a Division III school in upstate New York, in 2004.

Yeah, that caught my attention too. Not a great way to make an impression to win a contract. Mixed bag sounds like . . . score a goal, get sent off.

I'm sure Peter Vagenas is THRILLED to be playing in reserve squad games.

The arrival of David Beckham has really brought a lot of sunshine into his life, hasn't it? First, Vagenas mouths off (rightfully so) about the ridiculous difference in pay for Becks vs. all the other hard-working regulars on the club. Now, he doesn't fit into the new, Beckham-dominated midfield.

I'll bet Vagenas would love to go play for Sigi in Columbus. He could join Ale Moreno and their attack would be blazin' fast! :D

Wow! Vaginous is playing in RESERVE SQUAD games? You may be right, sop, he could well start begging for Sigi to take him.

I was at the reserve game and just wanted to add a few comments. Ricketts is really big and slow. He's very poised in the box, and you can tell he has experience, but standing around in the box is about all he can do.

The player who stood out in the game was Adam Smarte. He was causing problems all the time when he was playing out right. His defense was so-so, but he certainly has the quickness and confidence to play at the next level.

He also has some attitude. He was called for being offside and then suddenly you heard this high-pitched whine (think Chris Tucker) "I was on, bitch!". Everyone was looking around and thinking "what did he just say?" Fortunately for you guys the linesman didn't hear him.

Funny stuff. I saw Smarte play forward a bit at the scrimmage against SJ State and he looked pretty good there too. Quick and somewhat confident is how I saw him as well. He is really quick, as in good burst quick, and he was causing some problems for the defense. He may not be ready to contribute this year, but I can see why they are keeping him on the roster.
