What's up with Coentrao? Substitution brings out defender's emotions

Defender cried once more on Thursday

Just before the hour mark in Sporting CP's Europa League clash with Astana in Kazakhstan, Fabio Coentrao was replaced by Rodrigo Battaglia, yet the former Real Madrid defender appeared incredibly upset by the decision.

The Portuguese club were winning 3-1 courtesy of goals by Bruno Fernandes, Gelson Martins and Seydou Doumbia, yet Coentrao was reduced to tears on the bench.

This isn't the first time such an occurrence has happened this season, a similar situation came in January when the Portuguese left-back showed his anger after being withdrawn in the 96th minute of an away clash with Vitoria Setubal.

Damn, I thought we already sold him to Sporting but at the bottom of the article it says it's a loan deal still.

For how long did Mourinho make us sign him for in his last contract extension? Sheesh.

I think his contract runs out in 2019. We gave him an extension after La Decima season. Things really went downhill for him after that season.

Batshuayi has been strong enough since he joined Dortmund for the club to already plan talks with Chelsea about a transfer after his loan deal.

Guess this means no opposition from EPL clubs in the future regarding PSG cooking their books.

To be fair, listening to the pundits, former players and fans, they don't really care if they sell out, the most important thing is money. Liverpool could be called Ronald Mcdonaldpool tomorrow, but if they sign let's say, Messi and Neymar to go along with it, former players will be on Sky saying "weul yeou kno this is about steeyin at che top of yiropeean fitbol, and nahnahnahnahnah im lovin it is a catchy chune innit?"

Las Palmas score an equalizer in extra time, called offside, Sevilla take all three points home. Yikes.

I called it that but dudes in college would call it the Maradona. The rabona was the Quaresma though I remember that; of course the elasticico had to be called Ronaldinho. Good times guys thanks for the trip down memory lane.

According to Isabela Pagliari (brazilian journalist that follows Neymar in France), Emery has enough of the Brazilian clan. He dumped Motta (Motta is brazilian too despite playing for Italy), and he humiliated Thiago Silva (she implies he did it on purpose). Neymar didn't like that at all, because on the pitch he felt protected by Silva as a captain (against the referees / opponents). Emery knows he's out between now, and the end of the season. He went all-in on wednesday, and he lost.

    :ROFLMAO::rolleyes:

Haha wtf, it was hilarious. And there's still people thinking they can beat us in three weeks. This club is destroyed. Thank you very much Emery!

Señor Football: "Madrid have something. Against them, you can never lose your chance, otherwise they will punish you, but the worst thing is that they hurt the opponent with nothing. A counterattack was enough to take the victory... F**k

"You almost think it's an injustice that PSG lost by such a big margin because it was a game that should have ended 1-1, 2-2 or 2-1 for PSG. It's inexplicable, Real Madrid didn't play, but still won..."

"Were Madrid superior to PSG? For me, no, but they don't care if they are superior, if they dominate or are dominated. Their philosophy is simply to win. That is what makes them so difficult to play against in the [Estadio Santiago] Bernabeu, for example."

"They said that Cristiano was still better than Neymar. No, no, it's unfair. What did Ronaldo do in the game, scored a penalty and a knee goal..."

Yeah, sign Guedes. Great game again against Malaga. Has everything a winger/wide player needs, speed, acceleration, close ball control. If he also manages to score goals he'll be one of the best in the world. Wonder how much PSG want for him, there is no place for him now with Neymar & co.

And passing. i.e. great pass that gave them the PK for the game winner today. He's a big part of Valencia's great season.

All it would take is a big win over us in a couple weeks and all would be restored. Our lead/margin isn't as big as it seems. They have already been campaigning heavily for refereeing favors and a penalty. This will be very difficult.

No doubt if we do pull this off, the first thing people will do is say how PSG were never that good and how we got a free pass in reality.

Yesterday after their win over Starsbourg, PSG managed to be assured of competing in Ligue 1 next year, meaning that from today onwards Mbappe is officially a PSG player for the next 5 years starting june 31, 2018 (LeParisien)

James' father talks a bit about his son's move to Bayern, being respectfull to Zidane but basically saying he's the cause of him leaving:

"James is very happy now, which is normal when a coach wants you.....it was best for James to leave, since he lost the sporting happyness which he had with Anecelotti....Zidane was one of his idols, but that doesn't take away that the coach decided one day that he didn't serve his plans"

Don't remember the specifics of the contract with Bayern, but if James has the last say to come back or not, then it probably won't happen. I don't think he suited our formation entirely either, but he was a good player to have available; that I don't think we should have let him go that easily.

According to James himself, he has all options in his own hands. He's on loan there till 2019, if he refuses to sign a permanent deal with Bayern, he'd come back at 27 years with a single year on his contract. Bayern want him to stay, but he hasn't yet committed saying he'll decide when it's time to decide.

Even if he comes back, if we don't extend his contract with huge wages he'll either leave for free or look for a cheap transfer.

By the time the loan deal finishes then it’s not completely guaranteed as to who our manager might be, not saying there’s any reason to think of replacing Zidane but it’s the nature of the sport, things change fast sometimes, so there’s always a possibility.

Added to that, Perez has a soft spot for James, and imo it played a role as to why he was allowed to move to Bayern so easily for such a low figure. I think Perez wanted to keep the option of him returning open, whether under Zidane or someone else, so was willing to take a (big) financial hit (if James does permanently end up with Bayern). We’ll see what happens.

Even if he returns, he'll completely destroy us in the contract renewal considering that he'll be on his last contract year.

It would be cheaper than buying a new player with his qualities though these days.

Glad to see there's still some chance for him coming back in the deal at least, because I think he could still be more than a good addition to the team.

Although the chances are small but I do hope he can come back. Fantastic player. If Zizou does step away after this season the maybe he is more agreeable to coming back. And Oscar is right....... imagine what we will have to pay to buy a player of his quality in this market.

Bild reported a few days ago that Bayern is going to make the loan permanent this summer by paying the agreed upon fee.

The buyout can be activated at the end of next season. If they'd want to make it permanent now, the clubs would have to make a new deal. I've seen the report and it's the typical "Bayern want to make it permanent" with Bild taking the want out of the sentence and acting like it already happened. While i'm sure that they want to keep him, they will have to get it done in 2019.
