The Balon d'Or is from just 6 players, a list put together by l'equipe magazine, submitted for voting to a journalist of every 53 UEFA country, and 53 judges from non UEFA countries that have had at least one appearance in a World Cup.

So overall, trophies won or what you do in a marketplace without a lobby is irrelevant. It's about how popular you are with the media and the other players and this is where Ajax player and van Djik have zero of a lobby.

Modric won because of World Cup Golden Ball, CL title and Ron leaving to Juve.

Messi won BDR winning only CDR in 2011-12, Ron won in 2012-13 winning only Super Copa. Messi won in 2010 winning Liga alone. If Messi wins the double and other competitors are the likes of Salah, VVD, he's the favourite.
