Creating a new thread for 2015. I know many people won't care to post in it due to 2014. Up first: January camp. In: Trapp Steven Goff @SoccerInsider D.C. United's Bill Hamid, Perry Kitchen, Steve Birnbaum on prelim list for #usmnt camp, which opens Jan 12 in Carson #dcu #mls Still waiting to see if Omar, BJIV (since it appears several U23s are going per someone I can't remember on twitter), and Gyasi get called. Camp starts on 1/12, so theoretically the roster should be released this week. For LA players, USMNT camp will run right into LA's pre-season.
I am most curious to see if any of our young talent breaks into the squad for Olympic qualifying and 2016.
Yeah, our depth is pretty meh in general with the senior squad. It's a transitional period and the most interesting thing is the next crop of players - Concacaf U20s, U20 World Cup and Olympic Qualifying is very important. Depending on how things go some of those guys can get into the Gold Cup and Copa America squads.
The U20s were taking headshots today. Probably a good indicator of the final squad for the Concacaf Championship. The kid in the back leaning on the wall is BJ4.
GOALKEEPERS (2): Ethan Horvath (Molde FK), Zack Steffen (SC Freiburg) DEFENDERS (6): Cameron Carter-Vickers (Tottenham Hotspur), Conor Donovan (N.C. State), Matt Miazga (New York Red Bulls), Shaquell Moore (Unattached), John Requejo (Club Tijuana), Tyler Turner (Orlando City) MIDFIELDERS (7): Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas), Fernando Arce (Club Tijuana), Russell Canouse (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim), Junior Flores (Borussia Dortmund), Romain Gall (Columbus Crew), Lynden Gooch (Sunderland), Emerson Hyndman (Fulham) FORWARDS (5): Paul Arriola (Club Tijuana), Bradford Jamieson IV (LA Galaxy), Amando Moreno (Club Tijuana), Ben Spencer (Molde FK), Tommy Thompson (San Jose Earthquakes) Surprised to see so many Euro based players get releases like Flores, Gooch, CCV and especially Hyndman. That's a huge coup for us because he's getting minutes for Fulham and is depth for them on the bench. I didn't think they'd let him go.
I'm assuming guys like Nguyen, Rogers and Zardes didn't get serious looks because they had playoff engagements. Specifically I don't see how Jurgen can ignore Nguyen if he's serious about playing attacking football. He's an elite MLS chance creator.
Yeah that's the U20 Concacaf Championship, starts on Friday. Posted here because BJ4 is involved in it. Not sure if he'll start many games though, I think Tommy Thompson and Romain Gall will be the main MLS features.
I'm at a point where I just don't understand the secrecy. What the hell is the point? Is the roster going to be released on the first day of camp?
The coaching staff is still scouring the list of U-12 and U-14 players in Germany to see who has USMNT eligibility. That takes a while.
So basically the roster is going to come tomorrow or Monday - day before camp starts (ignoring the weekend since that's not a news cycle) or the day that camp starts. Lame.
GOALKEEPERS (4): Alex Bono (unattached), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Jon Kempin (Sporting Kansas City), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake) DEFENDERS (8): Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Steve Birnbaum (D.C. United), Christian Dean (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Jermaine Jones (New England Revolution), Perry Kitchen (D.C. United), Shane O’Neill (Colorado Rapids), Oscar Sorto (LA Galaxy) MIDFIELDERS (10): Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Mix Diskerud (out of contract), Dennis Flores (Club Leon), Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake), Miguel Ibarra (Minnesota United FC), Lee Nguyen (New England Revolution), Marc Pelosi (Liverpool), Dillon Serna (Colorado Rapids), Brek Shea (Orlando City SC), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew SC) FORWARDS (6): Tesho Akindele (FC Dallas), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Julio Morales (Tepic), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes), Bobby Wood (1860 Munich), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy) I'm confused, but what else is new. Kinda sucks for Rogers and it'll probably be hard for him to not take it personally, given his comments re: Jurgen in his book.
It's BS that Rogers was left off the roster. I was worried about his hamstring and not given him enough time to heal in the off season; but this squad has no LB's.
You forgot JK's motto. All that matters is true belief. If you think you can play the position, you can play the position. I started to write this as a joke, and then realized that it wasn't that far from some of his actual statements and even more closely resembles his coaching decisions.
I'm OK with Rogers being left off. He needs to focus on the Galaxy. If he puts in a really good year this year, he's back in the conversation. Too soon for me with the USMNT. I'd have also told him to forget about the book for a while and definitely no to the TV show, but that's purely from a "progress as a player" viewpoint, not his personal viewpoint and monetary standard. Wondolowski? Really? I think any question you can ask about his ability at his age was answered against Belgium. There's no more "potential" there. Great guy, feel terrible for him, but it's time to find some new strikers, not recycle the old.
I would normally say it's because he's a known quantity and they want to try out others....but Besler is on there so.....it's gotta be some weird Jurgen thing.
