I think this is a great idea. Here is a thread where we can discuss all national team games involving Galaxy players outside of the USMNT. Have at it!
So which Galaxy player are currently active on their national teams (or might be). Off the top of my head we have: JDS - Mexico GDS - Mexico Ola Kamara - Norway Zlatan - Sweden (maybe) I'm sure I'm missing several.
I believe Zlatan has retired from Sweden. Efra Alvarez is active at the Mexico youth level. Emrah Klimenta got his first call-up for Montenegro in the last break.
Zlatan is flirting with the idea of playing in the World Cup. He's retired and according to him they've told him he has a spot on the plane if he wants it, but it's up to him on whether he wants to go. Feltscher has 18 caps for Venezuela and he was on the team at the Copa America. I don't know if those are his most recent call ups. I imagine if he plays well he's got a good chance at being called up.
More evidence @Ibra_official is thinking seriously about the World Cup: The football superstar is set to become the face of Visa’s FIFA World Cup™ global marketing campaign. #LAGalaxy— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈 (@kbaxter11) April 17, 2018
I just wrote this in the marketing thread. I hope the team maximizes this opportunity. Visa is spending a ton of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on this (which helps with Zlatan's salary). We'll be mentioned in a ton of material due to the money Visa is spending, and thus LA Galaxy will be "global" and once again represent MLS. If Zlatan is playing well, even better.
Thanks for creating this thread as well, the tides have turned on which national team(s) our players are going to!
Yep and in every time they zoom in on Zlatan in a WC match, we'll get to see "LA Galaxy forward" in the caption.
Not sure if you've had the time to take a look at the Jimmy Kimmel interview with Zlatan that aired last night, but Zlatan was asked if he was going to the World Cup. Zlatan's response was yes, but he was very coy on whether he'd be playing in the World Cup. My guess is he ends up going to play for Sweden, but it's also possible that he'll just be there to be ViZa's face of their marketing campaign. I haven't had a chance to look at the schedule, but I believe there's a week or two that MLS takes off at the start of the World Cup. He may just be gone during that window to rack up some money for ViZa.
They'll need him there at the beginning to wow our clients and kick off our activities, so it is likely during that two week period. I'll know more when we get our official schedule here. Do you have a link to the interview (off to google and twitter)? He's great on camera so I'm sure it was good.
I really don't get collectables like this. Usually only kids under 8 get excited about stickers. I think this is on a par with Harry & Megan playing cards for silly ways to spend one's money. At least with a t-shirt, you can probably use it as a cleaning rag when you decide it's too passe to wear.
Well, no. But if they have the Herbalcrap logo, they go directly into the Savation Army collection box near my grocery store.
I guess my curmudgeon side came out. However, in my defense and to partially explain my comment, do a quick check of google. A box of stickers like this goes for $44.95 not including tax at Walmart. You could buy a nice bottle of wine (or world cup t-shirt) and a world cup team-of-your-choosing scarf for about the same.
So I guess that's a no? I'm honestly surprised because I was pretty sure this place was full of OCD nerds with too much time on their hands and who might get sucked into something like this. Also, my 5-year-old really likes opening the packs, and I like getting her to find in exactly which of the 650 or so numbered spots in the book the sticker is supposed to go. But I'm certainly not explaining myself to you, Grandpa, and no, I'm not going to trade my duplicates with you either.
If you had stated this was an activity you shared with your daughter, I would have not said a thing. It fits perfectly.
