I mean you can't choose your parents. But you can choose to be naturalized to a country of your choosing. Like Juninho and I'm sure Osvaldo Alonso too have chosen to be American citizens. It's not a cheap shot it's true. I'm only an American by Accident too, by the fact that somehow I'm the person my parents gave birth to, not somebody else.

Yeah. And the same goes with the German players, they chose to become American citizens. You're acting like they didn't sign the papers on their passports etc.

I would say the same if they had moved to Italy and instead chosen to become Italian citizens. They are half American and half German by accident on their part, they can't choose who their parents are. It's not a knock, I'm just pointing out those who disparage people like Juninho, Preki, Tab Ramos, Osvaldo Alonso, etc... because they are naturalized instead of born.

I believe it's only 3 years wait if you're married to a US citizen. So he just needs to get married and he's good to go next year. :)

Ahem, Freddy Adu? He was naturalized before playing professionally though.

He is a top class MLS midfielder, who currently aged 26, should be well poised to garner a few caps once the papers come through. He doesn't look out of place in comparison to the extant MLS pool of young American central midfielders, which group includes Tchani, McCarty, Trapp, Okugo, Powers, Kitchen, and Gil.

Couldn't it be argued that he has more of a connection to the U.S. than some players who happen to have an American parent but have never lived in the U.S.?

His wife might have something to say about that (and the 3 year clock starts with the marriage, not the original Green Card).
