I'll go. I'm not exactly sure why, but I will show up. Cameo by Gerrard seems likely. Didn't we get Beckham injured in his first exhibition game? It's traditional. Expect us to lose. Not by 7, but not particularly close either.
Saturday at 8:30 will be televised on Fox Sports1. I'll be there with a couple friends and some mexicana chika amigas...wish me luck!
Nope. He played in his first exhibition game with a sprained ankle that his got in his last game with Real Madrid.
I wish we would dress GII in Galaxy starter gear (with the first team's names) and pretend like nothing is wrong.
I don't think Steve Sidwell helped the situation. Is this touted as Gerrard's official welcome or are we saving that for the MLS game?
Gerrard will play sometime early in the 2nd half. Being brought on to a huge ovation. That being said, I'll probably miss it. This game is essentially happening the same time as UFC 189.
Yeah, but playing him even tho injured hurt the following games. A "made for TV" moment that never should have happened.
Sorry. LAG has no history with that club. You can't have a rivalry without history - even with some random Mexican league team. Play the G2 guys. Let's see what Mendiola and Diop can do.
For this reason and the fact we'll be under-represented as Galaxy fans, I'd rather we saved him for the 17th. I also don't care for the fact then, that we're advertising the 17th in a manner that implies its his debut. I think we pretty much hammered the LD retirement into the ground by touting everything from the MLS Cup to the final time he scratched his ass with his left hand as a "farewell moment". Let's not dilute Steven Gerrard's arrival with the "unveiling", the debut "appearance", his "First MLS game", his "First CCL" game, his "First time in a Carl's Jr", his "First time in a Carl's Jr during Breakfast Hours", his "First drunken brawl with LA Galaxy nutrition expert, Alex Savva" and so on...
Which is to say, wastes my time and has me leaving stadium scratching my head trying to figure out why I bothered to make the trek to Carson.
This is a friendly, but it's essentially a preseason game for Gerrard. I don't think it would hurt to run him out there and have him paired next to Juninho and linking with Keane for a few minutes on Saturday.
Just in case there was any doubt that Gerrard would play against Club America: Adam Serrano @LAGalaxyInsider 22m22 minutes ago Steven Gerrard: "I'm very excited to be here. The game on Saturday can't come quick enough." #LAGalaxy
The game is sold out in case we wonder why they have these friendlies. The resale market on Stubhub is very healthy. This is where us season ticket holders can get much of the season paid for.
How I wish that were the case. The league & other teams hammered that home, the crack marketing department in Carson didn’t figure it out until about 5 games to go they had an absolute gift and managed to sell out a whopping single home game after Landon’s announcement. I know I bang this drum way too much, but I would say it’s top five marketing failures in league history, probably the worst, but I’m sure if I said that someone would bring up a really terrible marketing effort from '97 or that GQ photoshoot from 2002.
I wanted to resell, but my son wants to see Stevie G. Also, the point above about seeing Stevie with Juni & Robbie for a bit together makes sense.
I know Bruce will Bruce up the lineup for this friendly, like all summer friendlies, but I expect a win from us. Our makeshift backline will probably be a letdown, but Club America are in preseason and will be without Peralta. I'm not expecting a great performance, from both the team and Steven Gerrard, but I really don't expect to lose. Is that hoping for too much?
