    Re: Saudi First Division

Being in New Zealand, I have a hard time getting First Division news but I hope Uhud and Ansar go down to the second division. :D

My picks are Al Watani and Abha to go back up.

BTW Why not merge this thread with the one for the first division. We don't need seperate threads for the lower leagues

    Booo this man! Boo boooo!

I support Ohod as my hometown team but I'm pragmatic enough to want Ansar to do well too. Another team I'm looking out for is Rabee3. It would be funny if the joke team of Jeddah make it to the top level, and even beat Ahli hahahahha <- one can dream :D

They once beat Al-Nassr 4-1 in the Majed Abdallah era :D.

    Didn't Shay3 el-nifeesa play for Al-Kawkab?

    Not good :(

The only reason they stayed up in the First Division last season was because of the league expansion.

Al-Riyadh used to thrive on players who couldn't get into Al-Hilal and Al-Nasser but I guess that strategy doesn't work in the professional era. It's sad because there was a period in time when Al-Riyadh were a bona fide top club. They sent more players to the 1994 WC than Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr, and Al-Ittihad (not combined, of course)!

I was shocked to find out that these guys are in the First Division. I thought they were like a fourth division club or something.

I remember they used to call Al Riyadh "The School of Football" :(

I always liked their Ac Milanish color scheme.

Well if it's just about the color scheme then Al-Raed's is even more AC Milanish.

    Re: Saudi First Division

They were, but a few years ago Ahmad al-Baadani (the founder of the famous Jeddah amateur team) became their president and the club has been moving up since. They got promoted to the 1st division this year thanks to the increase in the number of clubs (they finished 3rd). The guy is a scary fellow, but he knows his grass roots football. They're coached by Mahfouz Hafez (ex Ittihad player and youth team coach).

If anyone is interested, I've found a full link for the game between Abha (one of the promotion contenders) and Rabee3. It's an amateur video though:
