Toni Kroos in 2018:🇩🇪 First German to win four Champions League titles🇩🇪 German Footballer of the Year🇩🇪 Highest ranked German in #Goal50🙌 pic.twitter.com/HaLj3NCCaC— GOAL (@goal) November 15, 2018
Germans probably hate to admit but he is the best german footballer at least in their modern history (2000 - )
I like it, but I don't think I buy it. Best German ever or currently, I don't think so. Ozil, in a slight twist of fate, could have been the one to win 4 CL. And as awkward and out of form as Mueller is, I think he is more important to his club and country than either of those two (just look at their results this year and the correlation, he tanked and they tanked). Neuer meanwhile pretty much revolutionized the GK position in Germany.
Do they hate to admit it? Maybe the Bayern hardcore. I know the definition of best is fluid but in my opinion he is the most accomplished. The guy who got the max out of his talent and made good career decisions. But the best German footballer of this modern generation is Mesut. And I think that's something Germans at large might hate to admit. Or not.
He is Madrid's legend and he did leave Bundesliga and Bayern to become so. They prefer Lahm, Neuer or Schwinesteiger i think.
Putting aside the fact that you compared Mueller to Kroos, if Mueller was a Madrid player, you would have said the exact opposite of what you just said.
Schweini and Lahm are not Toni's generation. They are one before his. Neuer…… mmmm….. as much as a GK can be considered the best.... I don't know about that. I wouldn't presume to know what German people think about who the best is. In my opinion its Mesut. Special talent. Toni Kroos will end up with the most impressive resume. I think his next stop is gonna be Pep and City and he will continue to win. I remember when he was struggling to find a place with Bayern and was a bench rider. I used to watch a lot more football back then. I remember we wondered what his true position would be and nobody saw him being potentially world class. I remember a game when he came off the bench and my then gf asks who is this guy he's kinda cute. Lmao..
This year I will be thankful this never happened. Kroos is kool and all but I don't think he is the best ever anything.
Still they are part of their modern history as i said. Post 2000. I think germans would be feeling better to recognise them as their best before Kroos while he surpasses them considering the effect he has on the game. Yeah i remember him as a 10 and i still would like to see him there. I used to play PES 2013, signed both him and Reus. Sweet memories
Kroos will never get the recognition he deserves because he's from eastern Germany. He was popular while in Munich, but as soon as he left he became an "Ossi" once more. In terms of popularity as a person, i'd say even Boateng and Hummels are more popular than Toni, they are also in the tabloids every week somehow.
Just to add to this Kroos stat in September.Through 4 UCL games now, he has 5.3 key passes per game. Only one who comes close is Neymar at 4.3. He's a subtle and underrated creator. In the past three-four seasons Kroos and Marcelo have been so important offensively. https://t.co/NPc5TfwLdZ— Kiyan Sobhani (@KiyanSo) November 22, 2018
We're lucky Bayern thought he wasn't anything special. If we're going to discuss this in length, it's not that they were weakened so severely, but the move strengthened us so much that in hindsight, they probably would have kept him to prevent that from happening.
Was my fav Bayern player at the time, my Bayern supporting mate was trying to convince me (and himself!) that Toni wasn’t all that to get excited for. Immense signing.
Arguably one of the most underrated transfers of the decade by Real Madrid...after Modric. I can't imagine how salty the haters were that we landed the two best CMs in the world for half of Pogba's price. Rofl.
