Actually, doesn't matter who wins between Japan and Australia. They are both on 4 points, Korea is on 2. As long as there is a winner between Japan and Australia, Korea will finish 2nd in the group, go the semi's and qualify for the women's world cup. If Japan and Australia draw, then Korea needs to win by 5 goals over Vietnam to outright clinch 2nd. Otherwise, it is 3rd place and a playoff against 3rd place in Group A for the final WWC qualifying spot.
I'm sure there will be scoreboard watching and if Korea is having trouble piling up the goals on Vietnam, and the Jap/Aus score is tied, can see the teams playing to a draw on purpose.
Maybe, but there is more than just WWC qualification at stake here. Winning the group gets you a pretty easy semi-final match whereas 2nd place is a bit more difficult. Australia might be content to play for a draw, Japan definitely won't.
i doubt anybody gives a single ******** about the asian cup right now with world cup qualification uncertain
Disagree. There is zero suspense over which 5 countries will qualify for the WWC. The gap between the top 5 teams in this competition and everyone else is massive. All the Australians I know went to Jordan focused on winning the Asian Cup.
Ah, okay. Yeah, last time I interviewed Yoon Deok-yo back in October, he was clearly more focused on qualification than the Asian Cup itself. Players are generally more relaxed about qualification, though. Last time I talked with one of the players was Cho So-hyun last month, she didn't seem particularly concerned. Again, the gap between 5th and 6th is so huge, and the way the groups break down it is even more massive as you're really talking about the Philippines in a playoff for the 5th place spot which are even a further step down from Vietnam, which would be the 6th best team in this tourney.
crap Japan and Australia are leveled 1-1. We are up 4-0. If this holds up we are knocked out. We need to score 1 more goal
I don't know why the announcers keep saying our goals don't matter. Would figure GD was the the first tie-breaker.
