Seeding is done based on finish at the last Asian Cup. North Korea was banned for that tournament, so they were unseeded this time. Problem with that approach (outside of the obvious) is it becomes a never ending problem. If North Korea fails to qualify this time, they won't be a top seed again in four years so risk of two strong teams in one group again.
Bit nervy at halftime today, with only a 1-0 lead over Hong Kong. Five second half goals, though, for a 6-0 win. With North Korea only winning 4-0 over Uzbekistan, it is looking pretty good. A two goal win over Uzbekistan on Tuesday and South Korea takes a major step in the development of its WNT program, going up to Pyongyang and knocking North Korea out of the Asian Cup and the Women's World Cup.
Yep, the North's tournament is over now.. all they can do is sit and watch (and maybe think about that missed penalty). It will be quite an upset --- and also a bit harsh, to be fair -- if they are knocked out at home. The Uzbeks are not such a bad team, although I have every confidence a motivated South Korea could win by more than 1 goal. I was reading through the tie-break rules, though. Suppose the South wins 1-0. Then they have exactly the same GD as the North, but, as it happens, they would also have exactly the same GF and GA. And their head-to-head was 1-1. Not entirely sure what happens then. There cannot be a penalty shoot out (which there would be if they played the final game against each other). Then I think it is decided by yellow cards. The North has had 4 (two against South Korea and two against Uzbekistan), and the South 3 so far (all against the North). So if they win 1-0 with no yellows they would go through. If they win 1-0 with 1 yellow, everything is tied and they would draw lots to see who goes through. If they win 1-0 with two or more yellows, the North goes through. All-in-all the easiest thing is to win by 2 or more..!
game was ********ing intense. im glad they didnt give into north koreas physical play this time around and gave them some of their own medicine. cant play nice and expect to win
The berth for the Asian Cup and World Cup final are on the line against your arch-rival. You can't expect to play nice under such circumstances.
Goals - JI SOYUN, YOO YOUNGA, CHO SOHYUN, JI SOYUN 4-0. Cruise control now... Congratulations to the Taeguk Ladies, who did the job required under tremendous pressure.
Huge accomplishment to qualify in North Korea, coming off the back of a strong Cyprus Cup. Now, the KFA really, really needs to invest more in the WNT. They don't play anywhere near as many friendlies as they should do. With the state of play in AFC right now, it wouldn't be that hard for South Korea to quickly move up to the top three in Asia. It's sad how little effort the KFA puts into this team, which makes the results look all that much more impressive.
There's been far more improvements for the WNT under Yoon Deok-yeo than the MNT under Stielike, which is both good and depressing at the same time.
Yoon Deok-yeo wants to take on the challenge of managing the Men's team(s): 윤 감독 “당연히 지도자가 한 곳에 국한하는 건 바람직하지 않다. 남자 팀도 기회가 된다면 도전할 수 있어야 한다. 주변에서 내가 여자 팀과 잘 맞는 것 같다고 하는데 그만큼 고민하고 투자했기 때문이다. 다른 지도자도 도전해야 한다”
Has he followed men's football as of recently? I think the unlikelihood of YDY following and studying the men's game is his most concerning con as a job candidate.
With the rampant news and media on how 슈근혜 and the KFA is causing damage to the KNT, there's nothing more he'd probably want/need to know about the Senior team. Also, he most likely have caught a few games here and there as well.
Men's soccer gets so much coverage and exposure, that it really isn't that difficult to follow it. Going from the men's side to the women's is far more challenging. I know a former US national team player who went into the front office for a women's team upon retirement. That was tough, huge learning curve for him. Didn't know much beyond the US women's national team players.
For Yoon Deok-yeo to get his team to play against North Korea with much more confidence was by in no means an easy task. He's been through a lot of trials and errors to get the Women's NT to where they are now, and it seems that he's nearing the end of his objectivity especially when Yoon Deok-yeo stated that other managers need to take on the task of managing the Women's NT as well; he knows that the KFA have become too dependent on him, but wants to take on other challenges like managing the Men's team(s). His way of saying that the Women's team can and will continue to do well even without him.
In the US, the games will be televised on ESPN and Fox Sports 1. US Soccer is hooking me up with both to provide Korea WNT player background. Know the Fox analyst reasonably well so have already started feeding her info. At a minimum, hopefully I can get them pronouncing names correctly.
Universiade team defeats USA universiade side 3-0. Goals: Kim Sung-mi, Han Chae-rin, Son Hwa-yeon. http://kfa.or.kr/news/news_view.asp?BoardNo=14484&Query=Gubun=11301
