Hard to see clearly, but that was a pretty assist.

I'm not sure what to think about this tactic on Barca's part. I get that they don't like losing prospects for nothing, but it also strikes me as kinda petty for such a big club to play hard ball with a guy who's unlikely to ever make any serious impact on their 1st team anyhow. I can understand Hannover playing hard ball with Soto, since they're a much smaller club, have fewer legit prospects, and are in a desperate situation.

Maybe, though, De la Feunte is a better prospect than I'm giving him credit for...

    From the link:

"Barca remain keen to hang on to the forward and have upped their offer to an initial salary of €450,000 annually rising to €600,000 over the course of a three-year deal, club sources said.

However, the latest offer comes with an ultimatum: sign the terms or risk not playing for the club again.

Barca are aware of the interest from German sides {clubs plural, thank goodness} but sources say they've received no bids for the player is this month.

De la Fuente will be free to leave in June if he doesn't renew, although any club would have to pay Barca development rights of up to €700,000."

    {My editorializing}

If the interest as a 1st teamer from Bund clubs is real, that would be my choice.

If this report is true, I'd tell Barcelona to pound sand and line up a summer move. Six months off isn't going to be the death of a player, and it's better than likely being stuck in the purgatory of Barcelona B in 3 years as a 21 year old.

If there are a few interested teams one of them will make an offer. Otherwise it's all talk and he should stay.

Why would a club have to pay 700k if he leaves for free in the summer?

Staying at Barca where he has little to no chance to break through doesn’t sound like a great plan.

If he is progressing he will be sold eventually. Obviously Barca counts on that. They wouldn't pay $600K a year just for privilege to keep him playing in the 3rd division. Everyone is checking Barca B, Hertha B not that much..

Training compensation fees. That $700k figure is if he leaves for "free" in the summer.

Yeah, and Transfermarkt shows quite a lot of movement at Barcelona B, both outbound and inbound. Makes it rather difficult to believe he'd be in lockdown for the next 3 years by signing their contract:

right but as a free agent he will have great flexibility to end up exactly where he wants instead of who has the cash in hand to pay his transfer fee

Could mean they have come to a tentative agreement. Hopefully that agreement includes a loan.

Call me greedy, but the contract terms Barcelona apparently offered him seemed pretty darn good. That kinda money could literally set him up for life if he invested it wisely....

It's a quote from a little-known book on the mass migration of people from Belarus during WW I. It just really struck a chord. Wish I could write like that...

Yup. Invest that money, don’t spend it on a bunch of bs, and then compound interest takes over.
