Chris Konopka has a new club. He has signed with First Division side Waterford United. He is also expected to be the #1 keeper for them. http://www.soccer365.com/americans_abroad/story_211209200239.php Announcement from the Waterford site http://waterford-united.ie/tp_news/blues-sign-new-keeper-mac-and-muddy-return/
Konopka confirms that he is pencilled in as the #1 for Waterford next season: "For me, it was an easy decision. For the past two years over there (in Ireland) I have yet to break into the first-team consistently, so this is a fantastic opportunity with an excellent club with a great history to it," Konopka recently told YA. "Waterford has had a very experienced long-time keeper (Michael Devine) in the league over the past years, but he is stepping down now and the manager wants to bring me in to take over that spot as number one. For myself there was no decision at all to make when it came to this move because of that." http://yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=5658
Chris seems to be the 1st choice GK in most of the preseason matches and has done well with several cleansheets. In the latest friendly he blanked Ryan Guy and St Pat's.
Chris Konopka appears to have nailed down the starting job, as the season begins this Friday as Waterford opens at home vs Wexford Youths. http://www.waterford-news.ie/news/story/?trs=mhcwmheymh
He is still hurting and may not be able to play in Waterford's upcoming match. http://yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=6064
Midseason update: Konopka is halfway through his season in Ireland and his team currently sits in second place which will get them a playoff spot at the end of the season in November. "I am doing well and playing in almost all the games this season,'' Konopka said. "We will see how the season goes and hopefully we can finish out the season strong and win the league, which is the ultimate goal for the club.'' As of now, Konopka is enjoying playing the sport he loves and is waiting to see where it will take him. He hopes his determination and drive will help him play in a bigger league in the future. http://www.app.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2010100707106
I am glad that he says all is well. I noticed that he was on the bench for Waterford's last match and that the 'keeper reportedly did very well and earned a clean sheet and an important victory for the team. I was hoping that he hadn't been replaced as the regular starter despite his good record and low GAA.

KONOPKA STILL ON JAGIELLONIA RADAR The team is on a winter break but he will rejoin the club in a few weeks when they head to Turkey for training.
Konopka was trying to latch on with Columbus recently, but was among the 1st group players released by the team. http://blog.dispatch.com/crew/2011/02/thanks_but_no_thanks.shtml
Comming out of College I really thought this kid had all the tools to be a good keeper. Great size, good shot stopping. Surprised he is having trouble finding a team
I think he's with the Red Bulls reserves. http://www.philadelphiaunion.com/news/2011/04/union-edge-rbny-2-1-first-reserve-match
I wonder if that's just a trial, or emergency thing cause New York currently has 3 keepers on their roster, Coundoul, Horwath, and Sutton.
He is still playing with the Red Bull Reserves and came on at the half for Horwath in the match against West Virginia on 4/30. At the very least, he is not currently abroad.
He will trial with Oxford United during their pre-season tour of the USA http://www.oufc.co.uk/page/News/0,,10342~2392996,00.html
He didn't get into Oxford: Meanwhile, Wilder said they are continuing to look at options for a No 2 keeper after confirming American triallist Chris Konopka will not be joining the club on a permanent basis. http://www.oxfordtimes.co.uk/sport/9154226.Oxford_United_duo_on_road_to_recovery/
http://twitter.com/#!/ColumbusCrew/status/96013507774005248 He came on for the Crew tonight against Newcastle, and according to the above Tweet he's currently an MLS pool keeper.
Apparently on trial at Ross County in Scotland's top division: American goalkeeper Chris Konopka is at the front of the queue after joining the Staggies on trial. https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/sport/football/ross-county/851804/undefined-headline-1271/ Club site: http://www.rosscountyfootballclub.co.uk/
There have been a bunch of CK YA threads. If he signs overseas, maybe we can do a merge: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/arsenal-citeh-celta-vigo-others-tracking-chris-konopka.400821/ http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/what-ever-happened-to-chris-konopka.585209/ http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/chris-konopka-to-iceland.1030292/
