i think he should give it a shot...frankly post WC his career might be at peak or have started on the downturn.
If his body is breaking down as bad as it looked last season, a smaller role might actually extend his career both KNT and club-wise where he can stay sharp without carrying all the burden as he did Saturday. And IMO, almost any compromise to get him to stay in top tier of Europe is acceptable, whether its getting his competitive juices going at a bigger club, easier logistics for family, or managing his physical demands.
This is Ki's third world cup. Frankly, it be the best thing to hang up the KNT boots. We all know how brutal it is on professional players to travel to AFC nations, where the refs can be subpar and the pitches, awful. I think if PJS didn't play for Korea for so long, his PL career would have been longer and arguably more successful. With Ki nearing 100 Korean caps, I think he's already had a successful KNT career. It's time to focus solely on his professional play, I'd say.
KSY should take a step back from the KNT after this WC (i.e., not go to the Asian Cup in the winter) and then come back in early 2021 to prepare for WC2022 after we've qualified. It's going to be on an off cycle world cup in the winter. He can definitely play a fourth world cup if he's still playing club football in Europe and it's in the middle of a season. He should also prolong his career by going to the continent rather than staying in England imo... Milan just makes a lot of sense right now.
Don't disagree and on a personal level, would love to see Ki at club level for years to come rather than doing another WCQ cycle. That said, I'd also hold out hope for a chance to come back in next WC if everything bounces right, and Ki playing in Europe would certainly help.
I'm already excited to set my money on fire. The ghost of PCY won't scare me from it... hoping it gets done early this summer so I can bask in a summer of wearing before anything bad can happen.
Though I think he'd do better than expected if he moved to Milan, I would actually prefer a move to Spain if it's anyhow possible. Would suit him better imo.
His game will age well. Very much so away from the turbo charged rough and tumble of the EPL. Asians have been successful in Serie A previously as well.
WC2022 is a long, long way away. Given the fickle nature of the game, there's no way that we can guarantee the health and safety of players next matchday, let alone four years. I'd love to see Ki play in four WC's. But like many other professionals in Europe, I think Ki has paid his dues to the KNT and has made fans like me really pleased. Just a matter of opinion, here.
I agree with this 100%. He will excel in either Serie A or La Liga, but his style does remind me a lot of an Italian Regista.
obviously the author of the clip either knows something or jumping the gun a bit. as much as i've come to appreciate the swans and wanted to see Ki stay with them longer, but this move to ACM would be big
Ki motionless while Spurs pass rings around him. Seems Spurs have targetted him, because they know he isn't tenacious enough to react fast enough on give and go situations. Ki looking stroppy after second goal. Would be a massive mistake to offer him renewed terms.
