By popular acclamation, starting up a thread on WSL/Chelsea Women.

The specific occasion here is that we've signed Sam Kerr, who is on the very short list for best player in the world.

Also, we're currently top of the table in what is shaping up to be a very tight title race.

Anyone know how to edit thread titles? Asking for a friend who made a ghastly error by using the wrong 'your'

Fran Kirby and a Larry David reference, nice.

My local team Detroit City FC just announced a women's team this year. Covering women's football in college helped my understanding of the game big time.

The title is actually about Sam Kerr who we just signed from Chicago in the NWSL. Most thought she'd go to Loyn.

    D'oh. Shows what I know.

I know Lyon has been a powerhouse in the women's game but Chelsea has as well.

It's nice that they're promoting the women's team on their social media pages.

Lyon are miles ahead of anyone else in the women's game and it isn't even close. It's pretty crazy actually. Thankfully we're making a move. We need a few more quality signings though to compete.

Chelsea aren’t fools when it comes to marketing. The women’s game as a whole is trending upwards, there was plenty of interest in the World Cup and the national team just pulled in record numbers at wembley.

Still a long road to monetize this of course but for a relatively small outlay Chelsea can ensure their ladies side is among the elite for the foreseeable future. If the sport as a whole becomes more profitable Chelsea are well placed and if not, then the losses are absorbable.

If nothing else it is the right thing to do in the current climate which is full of I&D campaigns in many areas of life.

That's how I got my start in the journalism game years ago. Started out covering my uni's women football teams. They played just below a parking garage so I'd hang out at the top floor watching both halves and learning the nuances of the game. Say what you will about nosebleed seats but seeing the way players move from above is an education.

And yes on interest. My local side as mentioned just announced a women's team and they've only been around for a few years. Whenever the US was playing in the WWC we'd have the game on TVs at work. Much different to where the game was many years ago in general.

The FA have a site where you can stream a lot of the games for free. There are some weird regional things going on there, but if you have a good UK VPN set up you're all set

May Millie Bright's soul be resting peacefully. Long live Rose Lavelle. Chelsea women will be a proper squad with some world champions on the roster.

New signing Sam Kerr heavily involved as the ladies beat Reading 3-1 this weekend.

We're still the only undefeated team in the league, though Arse are 4 points up on us (we have a game in hand)

Man City beat Arsenal to go to the top of the WSL table this weekend.

Meanwhile, our girls beat West Ham 8-0 (not a typo), and without Sam Kerr to boot.

The three-horse race at the top continues with City on 36, us on 35 (with a game in hand) and Arsenal on 33. ManU are 4th with just 19 points.

Late to the game on this, but we had a super entertaining 3-3 with Man City over the weekend, which I just got around to watching today. This means against the other two big teams this year, we've got 6 points off Arsenal and 4 from City, putting us in the lead position for the title.

Beth England with the goal of the year?

England has the ladies one up against arsenal in the league cup final (our first, their 8th of which they've won 6).

Emma Hayes wins Manager of the Year, and Beth England gets player of the year. Both very well deserved

Ok call me what you will, but I have fallen behind, but was Phil Neville pushed out or was it his choice?

And are everyone stoked on new coach?

    Talking England now?

New coach has a ton of credentials and should progress the team. PN took them as far as he could but hit a wall lately. Wasn't a step up from Sampson but Wiegman should be. Has the potential to be as good a manager as the Ladies have had.

First foreign coach too. Unless you count the Welshers as being foreign :D
