per @Jfranse this thread is for WC and International discussion which may have been clogging the OT Thead hopefully it takes off
so a quick look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_FIFA_World_Cup reveals some interesting things. all of the stadiums either need be built or expanded upon, and all of them will have TEMPORARY upper stands that will be taken down afterwards and donated to other countries. seems incredibly safe don't you think? and of course, sustainable. i'm sure just the break down and transportation and reassemble can't be much more cost effective than just contsructing a smaller stadium somewhere else in the first place. alcohol can be bought and consume in fan zones, but it's still illegal to be drunk in public, without a .....permit. that has disaster written all over it. and just a quick comment on the human rights issues, didn't formula 1 pull out of races in areas where human rights were an issue?
UEFA on board with winter world cup which is just as well as I was running out of ways to explain why an average expected temperature for all matches of 40 degrees celsius was a lot worse than a one off match played in 40 degree weather when the expected temp was 28. Even pictures didn't help!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24160879
Agree. Great title. So all UEFA members say a winter World Cup is A-Okay. Just to accomodate Qatar. I thought the FA was against it. Anyway, it's a joke and even a blind man can see the corruption of $$$ involved in this, or hot Escorts making these old men feel alive again. Edit: Boots beat me to it.
And this starts off with two perfect comments. Well played @Jfranse and @fernb8 . Oh and Jozy Altidore is better than yours. Just to get the discussion going.
Oh the blind people that can't see it are those who set this shite up. No reason to appease a host country that likely won't give a feck. Next time Blatter can award a country that won't require specific accommodations to host the tournament.
Harsh. I'd have said Jozy (aka Josmer) was arguably better than some of our current shower better but his non-professional younger brother Josh? Harsh.
Dude. F1 and human rights? We're talking about Bernie, here. He may look like Warhol, but he's really like Blatter's evil secret twin. "Show me the Money". That's all that matters. Yah, that alcohol policy will not go down well. Particularly if Germany is playing Holland. or England is playing Ireland.
i knew there was an issue, but somehow forgot that Bernie was Bernie.... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...ights--i-dont-know-what-they-are-8581960.html also, to your second point, did you mean to say "any country that's not Qatar"?
The only thing that will help the alcohol policy is that it's probably going to be SUPER EXPENSIVE to travel to that World Cup (food, lodging, hotel, tickets, travel, airfare). So, the average working stiff (i.e., usually the most passionate supporter) will be back home, downing pints in front of the TV or at a bar.
based on the rotation I expect the WC to be in Europe for 2026 and I suspect yet another back room deal was cut to guarantee this and thus why UEFA are throwing their support behind this mockery
I have a feeling the move will be to somewhere like Turkey (I hope not) or possibly Sweden although France would not surprise me
one would think France 98 rules it out. and Turkey may be too fringe. shot in the arm economically for the Euro zone would perhaps but Spain, Italy or Greece on the list?
Again, I don't think it'll be in France. It was just a shot at Michel. My guess is Russia. Because they aren't corrupt....
Ukraine and Poland just had the Euros and there were quite a few objections about it not sure how great that tournament went as a whole
eastern europe has recently had their day with euro '12. even Greece had the euro's relatively recently. but the theory that a euro WC makes sense with UEFA buying off on something they didn't want. it just adds to the overall lack of credibility to the system in general when you have US, Australia, waiting in the wings though. really, they shouldn't have elected the next two at the same time, with the amount of economic and sporting change that can happen in 4 years.
