The timing of the winter transfer window didn't help him a whole lot, but the main thing was at the time no one was even really interested in him. And he would have needed to agree to terms with the new team (likely on a lower salary). Fontas would be the same way, Fontas would very likely be taking a decent pay cut to accept a transfer anywhere.
