Colorado is 1-1-1 through three games and is averaging 1.00 GAA. Howard has a bald head and a beard. The difference in elevation between Denver and Kansas City is about 4371 feet. Boulevard is far superior to Coors, but to be fair, it is disingenuous to list Coors as the epitome of beer in the Denver area. Great Divide, Avery, and Crooked Stave are all exceptional, and not at all exhaustive. I was never much of a fan of John Denver.
Actually, John Denver is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. Kind of like Abba and the Bee Gees, too. Don't judge me. Here's to another 0-0 draw.
Dwyer and Saad both have donkey touches tonight. Time for Blessing and/or Salloi to come on and see if they can make something happen.
Opara is absolutely killing it tonight defensively. I've lost count of the number of breakaways he has tracked back and shut down.
Tim Howard getting belligerent with Dwyer after the match. Apparently growing old doesn't always = gaining maturity.
I wonder what the dust up between Howard and Dwyer was about. It seemed like the center back from Col with the long hair (not sure of name) and Dwyer were having quite a bit of back and forth jawing and whatnot.
Well that was fun. All three goals were fantastic. I haven't taken a look at the replay, but I thought the PK was a pretty bad call. All in all, one of the most solid performances we've put together in awhile. I'm not sure why Saad is getting a start over Blessing, though.
Replay of the PK isn't nearly as bad as I thought it was. Maybe soft, but it's hard to say it's the wrong call.
I am thinking Vermes must prefer Soony to Blessing or Salloi because he knows the system and is easier for his teammates to organize with. That said, I agree that either of the other two should be seeing starts. Possibly the best game Sporting has played in a long time. They were in control even out of possession, and I'm very glad to see that. Because that's how modern soccer is played, by and large.
A lot of good stuff tonight: - Seth's shot was a rocket. Very impressive goal. - It went right to Howard, but I really liked that volley from Zusi. - I get frustrated with Gerso (I think he loses the ball to easy), but I was glad to see him score.
See, I don't mind Gerso losing the ball when he does. He tries "stuff" (Arena said another word.) He is aggressive. He is always pushing forward into the box. If he gets stripped half a dozen times but makes a dangerous pass or cross - or even scores a goal - a few other times, it's worth it. I thought he had an MotM worthy performance, but then so did Seth, Opara, and Ilie.
so last night was actually the first time i've heard his name spoken, and i have apparently been way off. i just assumed his name was more phonetic, so i've always been pronouncing salloi like suh-LOY. when he was subbed on last night, it sounded like the pa announcer pronounced it shal-WEE. i'm no expert, but that sounds far more french than hungarian, not that i'd really know hungarian if i heard it. did i misunderstand the pa guy, or can someone who actually knows clarify for me? i hate knowing that i've been mispronouncing a name.
A few observations: 1. Ilie put on a passing clinic. He was outstanding controlling the run of play. 2. Overall, the best passing performance of the young season for the team 3. PV was yelling at Medranda so much I though he was going to bust a blood vessel. 4. Ike was a defensive monster. 5. Sinovic got his groove back. 6. The first offsides call on Hairston was bogus. He was on and clearly beat Beasler. 7. Melia is still quietly one of the best keepers in the league. 8. Dwyer has the first touch of bulldozer. 9. Don't know why Dwyer was chipping on Howard all through the game, but its going to make for an awkward locker room if Dwyer gets a call up. 10. Medranda is physically talented, but is kind of positionally clueless in the midfield. 11. SKC scored three of the most pretty goals I've seen in one game.
+1 on that volley from Zusi. When is the last time we saw him crack a shot like that from range? I loved seeing that. I don't even really care that it went right at Howard, he made an attempt on a very difficult ball and put a great looking shot on frame. I think that summed up the confidence level we had going in the second half.
Only thing I'll add is if Dwyer's first touch is like a bulldozer, Saad's first touch is like a bulldozer operated by Teal Bunbury.
We were at a soccer tournament in OP so we missed it, but caught the second half on TV. We really needed a performance like that heading to the Kansas City of the west coast. Watched the highlights and I would give MOTM to Seth.
